Stock market update: Sugar stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: Sugar shares closed lower in the Wednesday's session.

Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd.(up 8.07%), Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries Ltd.(up 3.88%), Magadh Sugar & Energy Ltd.(up 3.38%), Avadh Sugar & Energy Ltd.(up 3.31%), Ponni Sugars(Erode)Ltd.(up 3.12%), EID Parry(India)Ltd.(up 2.91%), Mawana Sugars Ltd.(up 1.39%), Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd.(up 1.35%), Dhampur Sugar Mills Ltd.(up 0.77%) and Sakthi Sugars Ltd.(up 0.76%) stood among the top gainers.

Vishwaraj Sugar Industries Ltd.(down 2.55%), Rana Sugars Ltd.(down 1.41%), Rajshree Sugars & Chemicals Ltd.(down 1.16%), Ugar Sugar Works Ltd.(down 0.91%), Kothari Sugars & Chemicals Ltd.(down 0.76%), Simbhaoli Sugars Ltd.(down 0.76%), Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar Ltd.(down 0.73%), Bannari Amman Sugars Ltd.(down 0.53%), KCP Sugar & Industries Corporation Ltd.(down 0.50%) and DCM Shriram Industries Ltd.(down 0.28%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 27.41 points down at 22470.5, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 72.56 points at 74029.76.

IndusInd Bank Ltd.(up 4.39%), Tata Motors Ltd.(up 3.13%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.(up 2.45%), Bajaj Finance Ltd.(up 1.73%), ITC Ltd.(up 1.53%), HDFC Bank Ltd.(up 1.53%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.(up 1.31%), Reliance Industries Ltd.(up 0.79%), UltraTech Cement Ltd.(up 0.78%) and Bajaj Finserv Ltd.(up 0.78%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Infosys Ltd.(down 4.26%), Wipro Ltd.(down 3.32%), Tech Mahindra Ltd.(down 2.77%), Nestle India Ltd.(down 2.49%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.(down 1.94%), HCL Technologies Ltd.(down 1.74%), Asian Paints Ltd.(down 1.58%), Tata Consumer Products Ltd.(down 1.51%), Axis Bank Ltd.(down 1.41%) and Bharti Airtel Ltd.(down 1.21%) closed in the red.
