Badrinath Avalanche News Live: More than 40 workers engaged in road construction got trapped under huge blocks of snow as a massive avalanche hit Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on Friday. The construction workers of the Border Roads Organisation camp were engaged in work on the border area of Mana village in Badrinath, officials said on Friday.

According to the Uttarakhand government, 33 people have been safely rescued from the avalanche in Mana of Chamoli district, reports ANI.

At around 07:15 am on 28 February 2025, a BRO Labour Camp, located between Mana and Badrinath, was struck by an avalanche, burying 57 workers inside eight containers and one shed. The Indian Army’s swift response teams, comprising more than 100 personnel from the Ibex Brigade, were immediately mobilised, comprising doctors, ambulances, and plant equipment. By 11:50 am, the teams had located five containers and successfully rescued 10 individuals, all alive. Of the 10 rescued, four personnel are reported to be in critical condition

"A massive avalanche has occurred near the Border Roads Organisation camp in the border area of Mana in which 57 workers engaged in road construction have been trapped. Out of these workers, 10 workers have been rescued and sent to the army camp near Mana in critical condition," IG Nilesh Anand Bharne told ANI.
Around 57 labourers engaged in snow clearance work were camped there. Teams of ITBP, Army and SDRF have been mobilised. Due to active rainfall and snowfall situation in the district, we are not able to use heli-services, and there is also difficulty in movement. Clear communication is not being able to be established as no satellite phones are available there. We have no official information about any casualty yet. We are trying to rescue those trapped with a coordinated effort by all teams. We are getting all the support from the higher authorities

"We received information of an avalanche between Mana and Mana Pass where around 57 labourers of BRO agency were working... So far, we have not received reports of any causality. Army, police, ITBP, and BRO teams have been mobilised. We are receiving continuous support from the CM and PM offices. Currently, the rescue operation is slow because we are facing difficulties in movement due to active rainfall. As soon as the weather gets better, we will fast-track the rescue operation."
