Nice attempt in making tiles. You should fix the rock tiles which give impression that they are as flat as the grasses even though they aren't.

I find this title strange cause I found many new ideas from free games made by indie devs. So I'm not really sure how you could get such bad conclusion.
Why does it feel like the things we should be taking risks on aren’t getting the attention they deserve?
Well, let me ask you simple thing: which games uploaded here have tried something new and which haven't? If you're confused to find the answer, then that's why we aren't getting more attention.
What’s the riskiest move you’ve made with your game? Was it worth it, or do you feel like you’re still waiting for that breakthrough?
My riskiest move is trying something new. I should've said moves cause some did fail while the rest produce good result. Still I'm still struggling to get more players to play my games.
The shield mechanic is interesting but there's nothing informing player if you're doing it right or not. The hit flashes from shooting any orb are the same and neither of them flashes when they are shot.
If player is informed about how to beat the boss and the yellow and blue orb flash when they are shot, this game could work.
I can see how well the boss are designed. Unfortunately, most of the time I couldn't tell which attack a boss might use, causing me not ready to react.
Most of the time, I had to use spin recharge pod instead of attacking the boss, which is not fun. If the charging were faster or the recharge pod were more durable, it would be better.
I think you should change the title into "Need fresh ideas". No need for brainstorming or anything.
If you want an idea from me here's one: roguelike sokoban. The game plays like top down roguelike game however you defeat enemies by pushing blocks toward enemies. There might be more block types or objects you can push to defeat enemies, or even solve puzzles.
IIRC I almost never see any discussion about those game. Except for some developers releasing their game saying it's inspired by one of those games.
The closest discussion is this thread in which a member asks for Linklike recommendations.
This is my entry to Boss Rush Jam 2025 whose theme is : Spin
Story: You play as Braxus, a raider hunting for challenge. He has arrived at planet Ruvor to challenge strong creatures to prove his might. How far can you go? can you defeat the strongest creature in Ruvor?
Get it here: Ruvor Rush

Have fun with this game!
Hi there :D
1: what game engine would I use?
Well, you should decide what kind of game you are going to create. Is it 3D or 2D? choose proper engine which could be used to create your choice.
2: I have a Intel desktop but it's an i5 with a integrated graphic chip, no actual graphics card. Can I still make a game with that?
I'm not familiar with specs like this but there should be engines for low spec PCs.
3: if I'm new to coding and I don't plan on having a game done for at least 2 more years, what language would I even learn first?
This should be fitted to your chosen engine.
4: I'm not the best at art or drawing but I'm always practicing to improve. What applications could I use for making my own assets? I know they are gonna look a little crusty. But if I can practice now it will help later!
Again, as mentioned in #1, you need to decide if your game is going to be 3D or 2D. From the answer you can choose proper apps to create your assets.
5: how do you stay motivated?....
1. Create game that you really love. Don't make game because it's popular, famous or current trend! Make a game that you really love even if only a few people play this kind of game.
2. Have enough break and sleep.
3. Play some games preferrable ones with same genre as the one you're making.
Good luck with your game :D.
I know what Sprunki is, well only brief video clips though.
However, if itch.io were to get rid any popular game just because it is more popular than anything else, it would cause problems.
1. itch.io would be harmed even more because of unfair removal.
2. Let's say Sprunki and any clones or incredibox games were to be removed here, there would be other games to replace them. What's stopping the topic author from asking similar thing? and this unfair removal loop would be repeated again n again.
If author's games were popular games here, the author won't ask for them to be removed.
