Mentoring matters! Meet Taylor Tyson, who began her AFRL journey in fifth grade! As a young student Ms. Tyson participated in DoD STARBASE Wright-Patt, a K-12 DOD STEM outreach program, run by AFRL. She now works as an Education Specialist in our WPAFB Educational Outreach Office. “My experience with STARBASE has been truly unique and rewarding. Few people can say they attended a program as a student, later brought their own students through that same program, and now have the privilege of working with it. STARBASE is a wonderful initiative that provides students with hands-on STEM experiences, and it was an integral part of my fifth-grade journey. I was thrilled to offer that same experience to my students when I became a teacher.” Ms. Tyson also previously worked on the LEGACY program, another AFRL initiative, teaching the age 12 Craftsman camp. “Both programs have allowed me to grow as an educator and mentor. They have helped me view the world through a more inclusive lens, and I now feel better equipped to tackle real-world problems through problem-solving and a mindset that if you don’t succeed at first, you try again.” #AFResearchLab | #NationalMentoringMonth | #AFRLEmployeeSpotlight | #AFRLOutreach | #STEM |

🚀 Advancing the quantum revolution with basic research! The University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago, with support from AFOSR and guidance from Program Officer Dr. Grace Metcalfe, has realized an innovative design for a superconducting quantum processor. Principal Investigator Professor Andrew Cleland and his team have introduced a modular architecture featuring a reconfigurable router hub. This design overcomes the limitations of traditional 2D grid layouts by enabling any two qubits to connect and entangle, regardless of physical distance. The processor is flexible, scalable, and as modular as the chips in everyday devices like laptops and cellphones. What’s next? The team aims to scale up the processor to accommodate more qubits, enhance its capabilities, and explore linking router-connected clusters in a way that mirrors supercomputer architecture. This breakthrough demonstrates the power of partnering with AFOSR to drive groundbreaking discoveries that could shape the future of defense and beyond. 🔗 Dive deeper into the research: https://lnkd.in/gD2vtY9G #PartnerWithAFRL #AFOSR #QuantumInnovation #BasicResearch
