Your Resume vs Their "Applied Statistics" Fiction writer Ted Chiang was asked by tech writer Madhumita Murgia to provide a different term for AI, because he presumably didn't think "AI" was accurate or descriptive. He offered "applied statistics." Todays tip for job seekers, who are going up against the applied statistics of the modern HR department: While the goal of submitting a resume is for it to actually get read by a human, it probably has to get through the ATS first. This means you may have to repeat some items, or spell certain things out in different ways. For example, if you have experience as an AWS Solutions Architect and you're applying for something similar, your resume should be littered with "cloud" related concepts: flexible, resilient, scalable, etc. https://lnkd.in/gU2XH-u4

Ah, the classic hiring requests. Fact: 10 years ago, most of today’s AI tools didn’t even exist. As recruiters, we’ve all seen job descriptions that seem to demand a wizard, not a worker: 🪄 Must know every programming language ever created. 🪄 Be under 30 but have 20 years of experience in ML. 🪄 And of course, work for free coffee and table tennis. 🦄 It’s time for hiring managers to stop chasing unicorns and start focusing on real talent, people with the potential to grow, adapt, and learn. ⏲️ I have seen hiring processes go on for months and months, and I wonder. Is it hard to teach that one tech missing from their CV? 📦 The perfect candidate doesn’t exist. The right one might already be in your inbox if you’re willing to think differently.
