Anora: Where to watch the Mikey Madison-starrer Oscar Best Picture winner online in India

The streaming platform announced its monthly highlights, confirming the release of Sean Baker's film. The American film, which follows a Las Vegas sex worker and the son of a Russian billionaire, has drawn comparisons to Cinderella and Pretty Woman (1990). Anora was first released in Indian theaters in November 2024, and its arrival on OTT has been widely anticipated.

"Anora" will premiere on JioHotstar on March 17, 2025. This is the first time it will be available for streaming in India.

Anora started its award run at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, where it won the Palme d'Or. It is now competing in six categories at the 97th Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Director Sean Baker has also received nominations for Best Director, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Screenplay. Mikey Madison, who plays the lead role, is nominated for Best Actress, while Yura Borisov is nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

In the past month, the film has gained momentum in the awards circuit. Anora won major awards from the Producers' Guild of America and the Writers' Guild of America. Mikey Madison also won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Mikey Madison's Anora Gets Critical reception

The film features a supporting cast that includes Mark Eydelshteyn, Karren Karagulian, and Vache Tovmasyan. "Mikey Madison is Anora. She owns the character with the right percentage of vulnerability, humour and trauma. This Cinderella isn’t taking the world for granted. She might have made mistakes but there’s closure too. Not a quintessential feminist tale, Mikey puts a part of her in the character to make it memorable."

Mikey Madison Gets Oscar Best Actress Award

Mikey Madison also won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Anora, a performance that propelled the 25-year-old into a rising film career after starting out on television. Anora took home five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for Sean Baker.

“This is very surreal,” Madison said after embracing Baker and others before stepping onstage. “Forgive me, I'm nervous,” she added while reading names from a piece of paper.

Before Anora, Madison was best known for playing a moody teenager in FX’s Better Things, which concluded in 2022. She also appeared in Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood and Scream 5.

Director-writer Baker crafted the lead role in Anora specifically for Madison, who prepared by learning Russian, performing her own stunts, and training in pole dancing to portray an exotic dancer who marries the son of a Russian oligarch.

“I want to again recognize the sex worker community. I will continue to support and be an ally,” Madison said during her speech.

The film, which premiered to strong reviews at Cannes last year and won the Palme d’Or, has continued to build momentum, earning well beyond its $6 million budget at the box office.
