A Minimalist Tabletop RPG Setting

It's night where you live. The sun is firmly down past the horizon.

You are in a park, holding someone's hand, looking at the moon in the sky.

As you watch, the moon cracks open. Simply cracks open, like an egg.

And you're by yourself. Not that you've moved, but all the people are gone.

It's as if a moment ago, every other person on the Earth disappeared.

Even the person you were sharing the moonlight with.

Your hand is empty.

In the distance, cars and planes crash. Blackouts roll across the world.

The ground shakes. Part of it rips open, as if the Earth is an egg cracking, but still unhatched.

Revealed is an impossible stone labyrinth.

INCLUDES: A setting handout with the basic setting information and 10 questions to ask yourself about the setting, as well two optional rulesets for use with this micro-setting: 20XX Empty Night, for a GM and 1-4 players, and Carta: Empty Night, for pure solo play.

The latter system uses the Carta SRD and the former the 24XX SRD, under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license and Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license respectively. The latter uses a deck of playing cards and the former uses polyhedral dice, and both are fun systems!

fuck me, that’s some haunting stuff. Talk about not pulling your punches with the writing prompts.

Thank you! One version or another of this has been kicking around in my head for years.
