My support has expired. What should I expect?

At the end of a Subscription license period, both product backup functionality and support will not be available until the subscription is renewed.

At the end of a maintenance contract for a Perpetual Socket license, product usage is available for the version installed at the moment of expiration, but support is unavailable.

Any customer who is not current on their support loses access to product updates, new product releases, and timely technical support and won’t be able to manage licenses on the licensing portal. No new license keys will be issued for the expired contracts until maintenance is renewed (including license merges, edition upgrades and edition downgrades).

What if I renew my contract after support expiration?

Active support contract ensures you have full advantage of all the benefits:

  • New major releases, new features and minor product updates for FREE
  • License management and merges
  • Experienced Veeam technical support
  • Compatibility releases for supported hypervisors

Support is extended from the original expiration date for all contracts except subscription ones that are overdue for more than 30 days. 

After all support contracts for a product have lapsed in a customer’s environment for more than one year (for perpetual licenses) or six months (for subscription licenses) - customers can no longer renew licenses.

How can I migrate from a legacy perpetual per-socket license contract to a fully featured, portable Veeam Universal License (VUL) subscription?
Customers can migrate from Perpetual Socket-based licenses to VUL licenses by purchasing Migration SKUs. Purchasing these SKUs converts the contract from perpetual per-socket licenses to Veeam Universal Licenses and, in most cases, extends the support term for one year. Any migration from a socket-based license to VUL must be done for the full number of sockets in the customer’s contract. The purchase of new VUL licenses to replace Perpetual Per-Socket licenses without using the authorized migration SKU is not permitted. After migration, all further quoting will be done using VUL SKUs. For details on migration and pricing, please reach out to your preferred reseller or the Veeam Renewals Team.
What date is considered the support start date after the renewal has been purchased?

Perpetual contracts
Perpetual maintenance contracts are always extended from the support expiration date.
Example:

  • A maintenance contract expires in December 2025.
    With an annual renewal purchased in October 2025 — the new support period will be December 2025-December 2026.
  • The same approach is used for licenses with expired support. If the maintenance has expired in December 2024 and renewal is processed in April 2025 — the new support period will be December 2024 - December 2025.

Subscription contracts
Active subscription contracts are extended from the support expiration date. Subscription contracts that are renewed within the 30-day period after the end of the contract will be extended from the original support expiration date. Following that, support will commence from the date the purchase order is processed.
Example:

  • A subscription contract ends on March 1st, 2025
  • A one-year renewal order will be processed on March 15, 2025. That new contract will have a start date of March 2, 2025, and the End Date of March 1, 2026.
If I’m using a merged license file for socket contracts with Basic and Production Support levels, at which support level will I be supported?
To receive production support, all production-licensed sockets for a product must be licensed at Production Support levels, otherwise support defaults to Basic Support levels.
