And trust comes from familiarity: • The person who speaks up • The designer who explains things well • The one who looks like an expert Your work won’t speak for itself... that's your job. Break down your ideas. Walk people through your thinking. Because when they trust you, they’ll trust your work before they even see it.

As the design profession evolves, job titles like Design Engineer, Coherence Generator, and Design Futurist may emerge, reflecting the expanding scope and focus areas of the field. However, at its core, the role remains centered on problem-solving and enhancing people's lives through thoughtful design solutions. Regardless of the specific title, taking pride in identifying as a designer who tackles challenges and creates meaningful impact is what truly matters. The ability to reframe design as a problem-solving endeavor enables designers to apply their skills across diverse contexts. As a designer, I take pride in contributing to products that positively impact people's lives. In the case of the ADT video doorbell, I collaborated on the user experience and styled the exterior design. Whenever I see it in commercials, I whisper to myself or tell my kids, "I designed that," knowing it's keeping millions of people safe across the US.

"Struggling with high creative design costs?" Many businesses overspend on creative needs without realizing there’s a better way. Hiring full-time designers or paying per project often leads to unpredictable expenses. "Are you ready to simplify your design process? Let’s talk!"

Has any designer ever said that? Because I actually do! 3 moments in my career where I loved seeing engineers design: 1. 🖼️ I give engineers paper and pens – or a whiteboard. No engineer needs to be Picasso (believe me, some have hidden talents!), but everyone can draw arrows and boxes. I let them brainstorm new features and solutions with me. 2. 📱 "Hey Tabea, thank you for working on that new screen, but you know, technically, it would also be possible to do it like this; what do you think? Would that work better and look good?" This was an engineer making a suggestion. I love it when engineers see creative possibilities designers might not have heard of. 3. 🤹♂️ I play improv theater with the engineers to understand a user journey. Everyone participates and sees the pain points and user needs directly in front of them. Also, it's fun! Now, what do you think? What, how, and when should engineers design? How many members of your team can make things go from functional to the best product you have? Talha Hanif reminded me that a graphic designer is more than just someone who makes things pretty. Designers are that cog in your team that can make your product a hit. #designer #team #creativity

Does your heart sink a little when your designer tells you they're leaving for 3 months? or worse forever! Especially when you have a roadmap to follow and a finish line to crush. What if you didn't have to worry about that at all? What if you had something to rely on when a situation like that arises? What if you had a remote extension of your very own team ready to take control exactly from where your designer left off?

Another reason why owning your leadership as a designer is so critical. We're fortunate to be a very high impact, high leverage role in the product org - so let's lean into it. *** For me, this is an easy "yep, totally agree". The math is simple: - A designer is already high leverage. There are way fewer designers than developers (unless you're a garage startup), so a 10x designer is even more important. - Developers typically can't be as high leverage. Engineering/code is more complex, has dependencies, and there are more "cooks in the kitchen". So an absolute rockstar of an engineer can be hamstrung by their context. So yeah, a 10x designer > a 10x engineer right now.

100%, but. . . demonstrate how that equals ROI! As design leaders, we need to articulate better how the designer will deliver tangible outcomes for the business.
