As more companies seek high-quality credits to meet long-term goals, offtakes are on the rise. No doubt this trend will continue as NBS offtake agreements become increasingly standardized and easy to implement. Thanks to AlliedOffsets for sharing this research and Margaret Morales for her thoughtful commentary!
There were at least 18 offtake agreements for nature-based carbon credits totaling >20m tons in 2024. It's hard to find data about carbon credit offtake agreements---there isn't always a press release; even when there is, details on volume and price can be sparse. This is the first chart I've seen attempting to track offtake agreements for nature-based carbon credits. It's based on data AlliedOffsets collected in public announcements over the last several years. My guess is the data isn't perfect, but the general trend of offtakes becoming more common is on point.
