✨ Shoutout to Berkeley Lab! ✨ Their dedication to fighting hunger is truly inspiring! 💙 From hosting a quarterly volunteer shift at our Concord warehouse to sponsoring key events like Nourish Gala and Empty Bowls, their support runs deep. Each December, they take it up a notch with their Winter Food Bank Challenge—a friendly competition where departments race to raise funds. This past challenge? They raised enough for 100,000+ meals! 🍽️👏 Because of their incredible impact, we were honored to present them with one of our first-ever Meal Maker Champion awards! 🏆✨ Thank you, Berkeley Lab, for being a powerhouse of generosity! 💙 #EndHunger #MealMakers #CommunityImpact

About us
The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano works to end hunger and increase access to nutritious food for low-income individuals and families through a comprehensive group of programs that combat hunger and its causes. The work could not get done without the help of the hundreds of volunteers that donate their time to coordinate food drives, sort and pack the food, and help distribute it to their hungry neighbors. Our advocacy team is in Capitol Hill today to talk with our congressional representatives to oppose any cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the budget reconciliation. Currently, the House is proposing a 230 billion dollar cut to agriculture which would heavily impact SNAP. They are also advocating for a Farm Bill that will protect and strengthen SNAP and the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). #advocacy #snap #tefap #endhunger #hunger

Our Advocacy Team is working tirelessly to ensure the #FarmBill not only protects but strengthens crucial social safety net programs like #SNAP and #TEFAP (food bank funding). These programs are lifelines for millions, and we are pushing for robust state funding to support Food Banks and CalFresh (SNAP in California). As lawmakers in D.C. and Sacramento debate these critical policies, we are making sure your voice is heard. Here’s what we’re watching: 🍏 The new USDA Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary Rollins, is proposing changes that could restrict SNAP eligibility, creating more barriers for those in need. 🍇 The House of Representatives has introduced a resolution proposing $230 billion in cuts to the Agriculture Budget, with House Ag Chair GT Thompson signaling that SNAP will be a primary target. Why It matters: More than 5 million Californians rely on CalFresh to provide food for their families. With these crucial programs being cut, we will see a steep increase of individuals at our distributions. At the same time, food bank funding is also being threatened. This means that more individuals will have fewer options of where they can get food if their benefits are cut and we have less food to distribute. 🍊 Governor Gavin Newsom is set to release his May revision of the state budget on May 14. Between now and then, lawmakers are introducing bills that may or may not make it into the final budget. 🥕 We are closely monitoring these decisions and advocating for strong food security measures to be included in his final budget, such as #UniversalSchoolMeals and #CalFood, which allows food banks like ours to purchase California-grown food. #foodbank #endhunger #advocate

Last week, our community advocate Willie Mendoza took the stage at End Child Poverty’s 2025 IMAGINE Legislative Briefing to share his powerful story about the struggles single parents face when it comes to hunger and affording basic necessities. Willie called on legislators and stakeholders to take action—raising the #CalFresh minimum allotment to $100 and securing a $60 million investment in CalFood. These changes would make a real difference for families in need. We’re grateful to End Child Poverty for bringing us together for such an impactful day of advocacy and change! #EndChildPoverty #HungerRelief
