We are hiring an Operations Coordinator in Chicago! If you or someone in your network are interested in joining our team, please have them reach out directly or follow the link below. Entry and mid-level candidates of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
*And with that, a soft-launch of the news that our Chicago office is relocating to the West Loop-Fulton Market this Spring!
In light of recent developments regarding international tariffs and trade regulations, we would like to inform you of an important update to our shipping procedures:
Effective immediately, Dietl International Services will require the Country of Origin (CoO) to be clearly listed on all shipping invoices for any goods being shipped to or from the United States and other international markets. This change is in response to the tariffs that have been implemented in these countries, which are specific to the country of origin.
Please note that the Country of Origin refers to the country where the artwork or goods were physically produced. It is important to clarify that this is not necessarily the same as the nationality of the artist.
The inclusion of this information on shipping invoices will ensure compliance with customs regulations and tariff requirements, as well as avoid any potential delays in processing shipments.
We kindly ask that you update your invoicing practices accordingly and ensure that all future shipments include this crucial detail.
If you have any questions regarding this new requirement, please do not hesitate to contact your Dietl International Services rep.

Update on Tariffs on US Artworks: Canada & EU
Please see below for an update on the latest developments regarding tariffs on US-origin artworks in both Canada and the European Union.
Canadian Tariffs on US Artworks
As of March 4th, 2025, Canada has implemented a 25% tariff on select US goods, including artworks. This tariff will be rolled out in two phases:
Phase 1: The tariff is currently in effect and includes HTS code 9701.90 (paintings, drawings, and pastels under 100 years old). You can find the full list of products subject to this tariff under Phase 1 here:
https://lnkd.in/ghedqg3e
Phase 2: This phase, which is still undergoing public commentary and is expected to be rolled out in early April, will include most works of art under Chapter 97 of the HTS, such as paintings, drawings, sculptures, prints, and antiques. The proposed list for Phase 2 can be found here:
https://lnkd.in/gm_hpfZ7
As of March 12th, 2025, Canada has additionally announced a 25% tariff on additional US goods in response to the US tariff on steel and aluminum products:
March 12th Response: This tariff is currently in effect, and the listing notably includes items like statuary, ceramic dinnerware, and some types of jewelry.

EU Proposed Tariffs on US Paintings
As of March 12th, 2025, the European Union has proposed new tariffs on US goods in response to US tariffs on steel and aluminum. Notably, the proposed list includes HTS code 9701.90 (paintings, drawings, and pastels under 100 years old). This proposal is currently undergoing public commentary until March 26th, 2025. Details on the proposed tariffs and the full list of affected HTS codes can be found in the EU's press statement here:
https://lnkd.in/evCqKKGX
These duties are not yet active, as the proposal is still under review.
Please note that the country of origin for artworks refers to the country where the artwork was produced, not necessarily the artist’s nationality. These 25% Canadian tariffs & 25% proposed EU tariffs apply to US-origin goods.
If you have any questions or need further details, please reach out to your Dietl rep.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
📅 Remember that the days may be long but the years are short. It's so true and applies to more than just parenting!
Name the one thing you cannot live without:
☕ My morning coffee. As cliche as that sounds, it's basically the first thing I think about when I wake up.
What’s your favorite lunch spot or snack?
🥥 I have a big sweet tooth and especially love anything with toasted coconut: a butternut donut from Dunkins or a Girl Scout Caramel Delight.
For US citizens traveling to the UK, please make sure to note as of January 8, 2025, ETA rules are in effect:
U.S. citizens traveling to the United Kingdom for short visits, tourism, or business, will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) if they do not have a UK visa or legal residency in the UK or the Republic of Ireland. This requirement applies to all parts of the UK, including Northern Ireland and British Overseas Territories. The ETA is similar to the U.S. ESTA system and acts as a pre-clearance for travel.
You do not need an ETA if you are transiting through a UK airport and you will not pass through border control (check with your airline if you are not sure).

As of March 4th, 2025, the US has implemented a 25% tariff on goods from Canada & Mexico. The US has also increased the previous China Tariff of 10%, previously implemented on February 5th, 2025, to 20%, also effective March 4th, 2025.
Guidance around all three tariffs are set to be published in the Federal Register on March 6th. The draft publications (links below), do advise that these tariffs will contain the same exemption we have previously noted under 50 U.S.C. 1702(b) that exempts most artwork from the additional ad valorem duty. 🔺 Artworks produced in China are still subject to the Section 301 duties of 7.5%. 🔺
PA 50 U.S.C. 1702 (b)(3) provides an exemption for informational material, including but not limited to, publications, films, posters, phonograph records, photographs, microfilms, microfiche, tapes, compact disks, CD ROMs, artworks, and news wire feeds . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
‼️ ‼️ Antiques and Furniture, amongst other non-artwork items, are NOT INCLUDED in these exemptions and therefore should be considered DUTIABLE upon import into the US ‼️ ‼️
Items produced in Hong Kong are now considered to be of Chinese origin and are subject to the new additional 20% duties. We are, however, operating under the premise, based on the publication’s wording, that items produced in Hong Kong are NOT subject to the Section 301 duties of 7.5% on artwork.
As these tariffs are country specific, we would like to remind our clients and colleagues that it is important to list the country of origin on your shipping invoices to avoid delays and improper filings with US Customs. Country of origin refers to the country in which the item was produced, not necessarily where it is shipping from.
Drawback on Canada, Mexico & China:
For items subject to these new additional duties there is no allowance for drawback entries to reclaim duty paid upon export. This does, however, not apply to any other duty paid. For example, if an item produced in China is subject to the new additional duties of 20% + 7.5% Section 301 duties, drawback is allowed on the 7.5% only.

The program created by the company, to get to know the other offices around the world and learn even more about each area of logistics in which we operate. I’m very grateful to Rock-it for encouraging this program and for taking me to meet our Dietl partners in NY. We know every day seems to bring newsworthy developments worldwide. Something to note, as it pertains to the art 🖼️ world and art collectors, are the new requirements for importing Cultural Property into the EU which will be in effect starting June 2025. This includes: Chinese art, Japanese art, Indian art, Islamic art, fossils found outside the EU, tribal art, Russian icons, Egyptian art and pre-Columbian art.
