The fact that it is nowhere near as long as Gibbon Edward's The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire suggests that many difficult decisions were made about what to exclude.
This is a very interesting book that manages to not be entirely Eurocentric, though there is a large focus on the European side of the Mediterranean....more
