
Plan and share a route on your Mac
Before a big trip, you can plan your route on your Mac and then share the details to another device (iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch). You must be signed in to the same Apple Account on your Mac and the other device.
Note: Route creation isn’t available in all countries or regions. See the macOS Feature Availability website.
Plan a route
You can see how long it may take to reach a destination when following a suggested set of directions.
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Do any of the following:
Avoid tolls or motorways: Click
, click Options, then set your preferences.
Avoid busy roads, hills and stairs: Click
or
, click Options, then set your preferences.
Travel by bus, rail or ferry: Click
, click Options, then choose which public transport options you prefer.
For driving and public transport, Maps calculates travel time based on current traffic and timetables. You can also predict travel time depending on when you plan to leave or arrive, below.
Predict travel time
When you get driving or public transport directions, you can estimate how long it may take to follow the route, travelling now or at a future time. Maps bases the prediction on typical, expected traffic patterns, and you can see how the travel time changes depending on when you plan to travel.
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Click Plan, then set one of the following:
Departure: Select Leave, then enter the time you want to leave your starting point.
Arrival: Select Arrive, then enter the time you want to get to your destination.
Share directions to your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch
When you’re signed in to the same Apple Account on your Mac and other Apple devices, you can share directions to your other devices.
Note: You can only share driving routes that don’t contain multiple stops.
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Click a location on the map, click Directions, then make any adjustments.
Click
in the toolbar, choose the device you want to send directions to, then open the Maps app on your device to view the directions.
Searches you do on your Mac appear below Recents in the Maps app on an iPhone or iPad (iOS 16 or iPadOS 16, or later) when you’re signed in to the same Apple Account.
