
Get directions in Maps on Mac
You can get directions for driving, walking, taking public transportation, or cycling. When driving, you can add multiple stops to your route. You can also send the directions to your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch for quick access on the go.
Note: Not all features are available in all countries or regions. See the macOS Feature Availability website.

Get directions
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Do one of the following:
Click
in the toolbar, then enter your starting point and destination.
Click your destination, such as a landmark or pin on a map, then click Directions in the place card.
If your current location is showing, Maps uses it as your starting location, but you can enter a different one. You can also drag
next to a location to swap your starting and ending locations.
Click your starting point, click Plan Route, then enter the destination in the To field.
Click the Drive
, Walk
, Transit
, or Cycle
button.
Click
next to a route to see the directions list.
Do any of the following:
Zoom in on a step: Click the step in the directions list.
Choose when to leave or arrive: For driving and public transportation, click Plan to choose when you intend to leave or want to arrive. See Plan and share a route on your Mac.
Close the directions list: Click
again.
Get driving directions to multiple stops
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Get directions, then click
.
Click Add stop (below the destination), then search for a location and click the result in the list.
Repeat to add additional stops.
To change a stop, click the stop, then click a suggested location, or search for a location and click the result in the list.
To rearrange the order of your stops, drag
next to a location.
Delete a stop
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Get directions, then click
.
Click the stop, then click
.
Change the order of stops
You can switch the starting point and destination, or you can rearrange the order of your stops if you get driving directions to multiple stops.
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Get directions, then click
.
Drag
next to a stop to move it up or down the list.
Set your travel mode preference
You can set walking, transit, cycling, or driving as your preferred travel mode for directions, and specify related things you want to avoid, like highways, busy roads, and hills.
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Choose Maps > Settings, click Route Planner, then select your preferences.
This setting determines when you’re reminded to leave for events you add to Calendar. See Add location and travel time to events in Calendar.
Tip: If you want to travel to an event in another way, temporarily change this setting in Maps before you add the event to Calendar.
