Loved this spooky little experience! Narrative adventures like this are just the kind of thing I want to see more of on the Playdate. The music and art direction are particularly charming.

Some minor grievances, however. Keeping my finger on the Wegi board was more challenging than I'd expected, which I'd normally consider a good thing if it didn't make it so difficult to see what letters the planchette was landing on. I had to play some sections multiple times just to take another shot at reading the spirit's responses.

Also, based on the description, I was anticipating a somewhat more intense experience, so I was a bit let down by how easily the "mystery" was solved and the truth behind Sarah's death. Still, it was a fun romp!

Just finished King Edition! For anyone new to Abscess, I strongly recommend playing 0.82 or even 0.75 (for a shorter playthrough) first, as the new ending does feel explicitly designed for those who played an earlier iteration of the game.

I can see why some folks are upset or confused that King Edition omits Gurgle, but I'm personally very happy that there's now a "complete" version of the game. Incredibly cool that DGT can say they've got a finished title under their belt that they can be proud of with the possibility of revisiting whenever they feel inspired to do so.

What nags at me now is that I have no idea if exploring the No-Go Doors or avoiding every instance of A CURSE IS COMING! (which I did) has any effect on the story. I've never wanted a Prima Strategy Guide for an indie game so badly lol.

Holy shit, Christmas came a month early. Thanks so much for continuing work on this project despite such a tremendous setback last year. Absolutely dreading (positive) to see all that's changed.

I wanted so badly to like this game, and on the whole, I do think I had an enjoyable experience. It was pleasant coming back to my Playdate throughout the day to check in on my flowers and texts, because it gave me something small to look forward to whenever I had a moment of free time. Unfortunately, everything else about it feels like fumbled bag.

I found Midori to be an extremely frustrating character who is given several chances to develop, mature, and improve, but for the most part, she just...doesn't. I can't go into details without entering spoiler territory, but the writers seem to be very conflict-averse. Midori has some serious flaws that she needs to work on (how dismissive she is of her parents, shutting down communication when the going gets tough), but the story does very little to actually address them - she's not allowed to grow at all, especially in regards to her relationship with her parents. The ending feels sudden, half-baked, and SO thoroughly unearned. That said, the writer says outright that this is their first time writing a story, which makes some of these issues easier to understand.

As for the gameplay, the garden is SUPER cute, but I have no idea if it actually affects progression at all. I kept hoping the game would give me more reasons to make money beyond buying garden upgrades/more flowers, but it never did.

My gripes aside, I am looking forward to what the studio releases next. They have the potential to craft something real special, so I would love to see them stick the landing next time.

Also, I think it's funny that they used Pixie's art from SMT/Persona for the Horoscope icon lol.

EDIT: I just saw that there's a post-game story. Will update my review after clearing the new content!

I can't imagine how devastating losing that much work must feel. I am so sorry this happened to you, but I absolutely loved what you were able to share with us - it stuck with me in a way I hadn't experienced in a long time. Thanks so much for introducing us to FishBone and I can't wait to see what you make next.

YES!! I was just thinking about this game a couple days ago. So thrilled to see an update, very eager to play through the changes!

Real special little surreal game here.  The sprite portraits are charming, the world-building has an excellent subtle flavor, and the voice work is especially professional. The tense atmosphere is maintained by some pretty common tricks (sudden noises that are just there to make you flinch rather than actually warning you of incoming danger, tame visual jumpscares, warped music), but it's effective without feeling hammy. Very happy I stumbled upon this!

Judging by the title screen stating this is version 0.75 and the fact there are optional areas to explore, I assume multiple endings are intended, but none seem to be present in this version. It's a bit of a shame, since I went far out of my way to try to get a different result, but nothing changes. Crossing my fingers this game receives an update, because there is SO MUCH potential here for some awesome branching paths.

Also, I feel it's worth mentioning for anyone sensitive to imagery/mentions of suicide: there's a sudden and potentially shocking development related to that subject. I personally don't have that sensitivity, but I DID almost share this game with someone who experienced a traumatic suicide in their immediate family –that tidbit would have absolutely ruined their day.

EDIT: If the warning about themes of suicide was there before, I'm so sorry I missed it, but if it's new, thank you so much for adding it! :)
