Discord is up! :) https://itch.io/jam/manas-2d-horror-game-jam-1/topic/4563832/discord-available-l...

There is now a Discord! :) https://itch.io/jam/manas-2d-horror-game-jam-1/topic/4563832/discord-available-l...

Hello hello! Per others suggestions(thank you) and because I'm looking at this Game Jam as a long term project, I have created a new Discord server separate from the one tied to my YouTube channel.

As of now there's only a few sections so I would appreciate any suggestions that anyone here has. I have never been in a Discord dedicated to a Game Jam so I feel that many of you may know better than me. I will fill out the Community category with some general stuff soon but for the main Game Jam category, please let me know what you would be good.

Please also let me know if anyone has suggestions for roles, as of now it's just Admin and Members, very basic, but like with the jam itself I want to learn and improve over time so we'll get there! :)

This is also a tough one, on one hand if there's 3D models, that leans away from 2D, but what you describe does lean towards the spirit of a 2D game as I put it. Honestly I think it's best to be less strict for this first game jam and to let it be a learning experience. If you think it should be okay, go for it! 馃憤

I will use this first jam to learn and see how others feel and perhaps even one of the rating categories in the future can be "2D Game" or something so that can become part of the ratings for others to be making the final judgement.

To anyone reading, feedback, thoughts, suggestions are all very welcome. Happy to hear others input on this so that future jams can continue to improve. 馃憤

Sounds like that's the way to go. I will see about getting that all setup tomorrow. 馃憤

Hmm this is a tough one, I think it's fine for the definition of 2D to be stretched a lot, but it is still a 2D game jam. I think 2.5D is okay and anything that's still in the spirit of a 2D game, but I think the Mr Hopps example is ultimately a full 3D game so it would lean outside of that. With the Mr Hopps example, maybe if that was a point and click game it would be a bit more on the line(Although even then it's a bit murky), but if you are walking around a 3D environment, it would be hard to call it 2D.

Hopefully your idea can work within that in some way, I appreciate your participation!

I had not thought about that but I think that should be okay, 2.5D tends to still be in the spirit of 2D style games.

Thank you for your questions!

1) There is not but I could see the benefit of that. I run a Discord server for my channel so I could have a category for this but maybe it should be a new server just for this. Either way, that's a good idea.

2) I set the hashtag #2DHorrorGameJam but I'm wondering if I should change it. It started as #Manas2DHorrorGameJam but the "Manas" bothered me since it can be read weird without the apostrophe in there. 馃槄

Checking now, I'm not seeing any results for #2DHorrorGameJam so maybe we are good to go ahead with that. Open to suggestions!

Hello hello! Since this is the first time for me hosting a Game Jam I wanted to make this thread to welcome any and all suggestions, feedback, thoughts, etc. I want to learn and improve for the future so I appreciate anything anyone wants to say, I will take it all in with care and consideration.

Thank you!

Hello hello! I realised after making this jam that I should have allowed more time before submissions open so I'm getting ahead with #2. It's currently active with submissions open from March 1-31 and voting through to April 14. I will see how this goes and if it works out, I will follow the same for future jams with submissions open for the full month and voting continuing for 2 weeks into the next month.

Thank you all. Feedback and suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

Mana's 2D Horror Game Jam #2: Trust - https://itch.io/jam/manas-2d-horror-game-jam-2

This was a real stand out for me, some mystery, great atmosphere, clearly a lot of time put into the smaller things. The demo stop was a bit abrupt for me, it wasn't expected, but I can also understand the time constraints and it did definitely leave me wanting to play the full game. 馃憤

Thank you for that! 馃檹 I really enjoyed the demo, end was a little sudden/unexpected but definitely left me wanting to play the full game. Playthrough is up on my YouTube channel(@ModdedMana). 馃憤

Any chance for a download version? 馃檹

This ended up being a lot better and more unique than I could have expected. Kinda a walking simulator like you said but very cool, I liked it, not what I was expecting.

Any chance of a download version? 馃檹

Really enjoyed checking it out! Love the art style! I do think the art style/presentation held things up a lot more than anything else, which isn't bad, but that's just what really stuck with me above all else. 馃 Either way though, very cool 5 day project. 馃憤

I'm not 100% on what happened or how to pronounce the name but I do know I enjoyed playing. 馃槃 Edit: Some areas inside were probably a bit too dark. I'm not sure if that was intended but for some monitors it's at a level where you can't see properly in some spots. Great stuff otherwise and it wasn't a big deal or anything, just worth noting. 馃憤

Absolutely loved this, such a high quality game - All of the custom artwork does wonders for the experience. I had a great time getting all 8 endings.

No worries! It seems inconsistent, cursor came up yesterday and then later it didn't again. I'll get it sorted but just letting you know, don't know what it would be.

I can't seem to get a cursor. I tried Windows 8 compatibility(Wasn't sure if that's what you meant or something else) and running as admin but no luck. Anything else I should try?

Any chance of a download version? 馃檹

Well that escalated. 馃槄 It was closer to 50 minutes for me which I was very happy with and it all plays really well, awesome use of RPG Maker - It's a great engine so I appreciate seeing people get creative/weird with it. Looking forward to Chapter 3! 馃檶

I played this after Don't Let Her In and wow, really makes me wonder why there weren't more games like this on the Gameboy Color -  Everything works so well and is just so much more than I thought would be possible. Do you know if this runs on original hardware?

This worked really well, surprised how far horror can go on Gameboy Color - Hope to see more projects in the future. 馃憤

Really liked this one, feels like there's a lot of effort put into it - All of the custom artwork really goes a long way. Only thing I wanted to note is that i think the diary needs to be slowed down - Reading aloud probably doesn't help but it still seemed to go by really fast and I found myself just trying to quickly get it read so much that I didn't focus properly on what what it actually said - Second part there is probably more a me issue but yeah just wanted to note that, everything else was great, really looking forward to seeing more. 馃憤

Damn that was depressing, but in a very well written way. I don't much about the accuracy of things but I feel like you did a really good job with this. Hope to see you take on more RPG Make projects.

Oo I didn't realize there were multiple endings. 馃槷

Glad to see more games coming out from you in this style. 馃憦

Took me a while but I managed to get all 3 endings, good stuff. 馃憤

I didn't play quite as intended but I did have fun. 馃槄

Sounds like an interesting one! About to play Red Trees and then found this and was going to grab for later but the download button shows "Nothing is available for download yet.".

Cool concept, fun to check out. 馃憤 Only things I would note are that it may work better being a little longer to give more build up on doing 1-3-4 commands before getting to 5-6. I also thought it was a bit too generous when it comes to winning - I won but didn't think I did very well haha.

Loved it! Really hope you continue making point and click games in this style. 馃憤 Would be cool to see a project with more item management/puzzle solving - I think your style would mix really well with gameplay like that of the Deep Sleep/Don't Escape series. 馃

+1 hoping for an English version someday 馃榿 Looks so good!

Loving the artwork! Just curious about the download version, I'm not seeing it at the moment.

Does the job until after this part but then you get stuck. 馃槄

For some people it's not working. She appears but doesn't move at all.

Was a real pleasant surprise to randomly see an Act Two when I was browsing the 2D/Horror tag. Hope to see things continue further. 馃憤 Just one thing, you can finish the game without realizing immediately after you get in your car if you travel to the last location. 馃槄

This was quite the experience. 馃槄 The only things that I would note is that the reload could be a tad faster and I think there may have been a issue on the last level where some of the flying insects were already dead.

I had some issues with the sprint and I think it'd be great if progressed saved after finding keys(I found myself going up and down the elevator to save) but other than that I really liked the concept and thought the first person view with the camera worked really well. I could definitely see this as an interesting anthology series. 馃憤
