Bug list
Quick info;
The launcher and the in-game tool will be separated below. If an existing temporary solution exists, then it will be written just underneath the listed bug.
GameTranslate Tool
- Some games experience 'double input'
- Older games may have the in-game cursor and the GameTranslate cursor not aligning
- Civilization VI 'locks' the mouse for 1~ second when the mouse cursor is on top of a menu item and the overlay is activated
- Older games may have the mouse cursor disappearing after using the overlay
Temporary solution: Move or click your mouse to bring it back
GameTranslate Launcher
- Games on Epic Games/Steam may have trouble being launched through GameTranslate
Temporary solution: Launch the game through Epic Games/Steam first and then click launch on GameTranslate
- Not possible to see or save two .exes with the same name

Game launch questions
- Help! I'm trying to launch a game from Steam/Epic Games/another platform through GameTranslate but it fails to start up properly.
Some games on these kinds of platforms can only be launched through the platform itself. Try starting up the game first and then select the game & click 'Launch' in GameTranslate.
- I'm getting a 'GameTranslate failed to launch' error message when launching a game.
It is possible that the game is set to be launched with administrator privileges. Please use 'GameTranslate_compatibility_mode.exe' to use the tool in these games. If the game is using an Anti-Cheat it is possible that it is blocking GameTranslate from launching the tool because GameTranslate is not yet whitelisted in any Anti-Cheat.
Language models
- When will [insert language] be available to use in GameTranslate?
At the moment I am completely at the grace of open source models due to lacking funds to create these on my own. Thus, as of now I can only take language model requests and wait for the day that I have the money to create them.
- How can I contribute? I have a lot of computer power/money/language models.
Right now there isn't any guide available at your disposal that is coming from me. However, if you have access to multiple next-gen GPU's and have the experience & will to help out, you can reach me at gametranslate.ojefors@gmail.com so we can discuss it. The same goes for anyone willing to donate money or anyone who has Marian language model(s) that can be incorporated.
- How's the quality of the language models?
Most models that currently can be downloaded directly from GameTranslate are of decent quality. To give some sort of indication - the models will on average be slightly worse than Google Translate's equivalent. The vast majority of translations will only be hard to comprehend if the text that is used as input is broken in one or more ways. All current and future models are sure to improve - however, competing with the likes of Google or Deepl is not realistic for offline models.
Miscellaneous
- Can I use GameTranslate on really old games like Heroes 3, Warcraft 3 etcetera that use DirectDraw?
It is possible that it will work if you use dgVoodoo, dxwrapper or similar tools, however, this functionality is not integrated into GameTranslate yet. It is planned to be integrated sometime in the future. For now, you can try to launch the game with the DirectX 8 option.
- How fast are the translations?
They are anywhere between instantaneous for the human eye to 1~ second depending on the size of the text & the computer. If you've got a computer no older than 8~ years then the speed shouldn't be a problem to you.
- I want to use a specific font in-game, how can I add one?
The only format supported right now are .ttf files. Put it in GameTranslate/fonts folder and it should popup in the launcher for you to select.
- I'm experiencing a bug. What's the easiest & best way to report it to you?
- Go to the sticky thread called "BUG REPORTING"
- Follow the template given in that thread
- If you can, turn on debug mode in the launcher, reproduce the bug and send me the logs located in AppData/Roaming/GameTranslate/crashdump
- Is GameTranslate DRM-free?
Yes, currently GameTranslate is DRM-free.
- Can I change the settings from the launcher while I'm in-game?
Yes, language models and hotkeys are possible to change from the launcher without having to restart the game. However, some settings do require you to restart the game, such as changing the translation engine.
- I noticed that there is no menu in-game. Will this be added in future versions?
Yes! It is absolutely something that I plan to add to GameTranslate. No ETA available though.
- I want to use GameTranslate to learn a new language. What tools are available to help with that?
At this moment, GameTranslate only offers a fast translation service.
However, I do plan on adding tools to help learning languages. The details of it are not clear yet, but I do want it to be based on spaced repetition training, such as the apps Anki or Toucan. That kind of system would however be much further into the future.
- I don't like the current design of the translation window. Can I change it?
At the moment this is not possible, but I do plan on adding customizing features.
Some games use Anti-Cheat tools that unfortunately also block applications like GameTranslate from overlaying and interacting with the game. If any game uses the anti-cheat below, it will not work with GameTranslate
- EAC (Easy Anti-Cheat)
- Possibly others
Anti-cheat tools like EAC may be supported in the future

Hi there,
I have a hotfix available for the demo version that I made for @Godyx. It fixed his crashes and I believe it will fix yours as well.
You can download and try it from here;
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/kifdnjbeobcba41khc1tw/GameTranslate_0.1.5_x64_en-...
Please let me know if it works for you as well. I plan on updating the versions here on itch.io with a new hotfix release tomorrow.
Hi Godyx!
Glad you're wanting to try it out. To clarify - the application closes when you click on a game in the desktop application? Or when you try to use your hotkeys in-game?
If you know how to get to your appdata folder on your PC, you can find a crashdump.txt at appdata/roaming/GameTranslate/crashdump
I'd love to take a look at it if you could upload it here or email me at gametranslate.ojefors@gmail.com
Thank you!
I inspected the link and I can see that you've checked through www.virustotal.com - I can verify I get the same results. I don't have a clue what is making it get flagged. I'll have to look through the codebase's dependencies to see if I can find anything suspicious. However, it is extremely likely that it is simply just a false positive.
GameTranslate is now released as an early-access tool!
I've worked on this in-game language translator on and off for the past 10 months and I'm happy to announce that I have a build ready that works well enough for it to be useful to many people out there.
What's so special about this translator?
As far as I am aware, any other translator out there that is aimed to work with games only does so in windowed mode or borderless fullscreen. Meaning that those applications run outside of the game itself.
GameTranslate puts you right inside the game that you wish to translate in, letting you 'pause' the cursor so you can even translate tooltips that come up when you hover something. And it does so locally, completely offline.
Currently, GameTranslate has 27 language models and more coming in the future.
For more information, hit up the FAQ (being updated frequently) or ask me questions here or on the GameTranslate itch.io forum.
Please do give the demo a try, and if you know any friends struggling to play English games or anyone else wanting to play games and learn languages at the same time, let them know!

There are a lot of models available for download that are unverified in terms of quality. It's really difficult for me who only speaks a handful of languages to justify how well all of these models work in typical game scenarios. Therefore, I want users to try and justify how good/bad any model is in comparison to.. for simplicities sake - the equivalent on Google Translate.
Please, to the best of your ability, leave a rating based on a scale of 10 where 10 would be a language model from Google Translate. If you have time and concrete examples, it is also very much appreciated to leave a comment on that too so I can investigate and see if I can do anything about it without having to create a new language model.
For example;
English - Spanish [8/10]
The model generally translates well but it seems to struggle with Title Casing like;
"Strong Sharpshooter"
which translates to
"Fuerte Sharpshooter"
instead of
"Fuerte tirador afilado"
