I'm so happy. The "If I Had a Tail" scene with Alex remains untouched. I would have been really pissed if it wasn't the case as I consider it the best scene of the whole game.

To me, this mechanic is really bad. Even when the default are left, it looks weird and kind of ruins the story.
SPOILER WARNING: THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLE SPOILS EPISODE 7!!
Like at a moment, the character is supposed to say an interesting line and then this relationship mechanic comes up:
"I'm going to find you, and you're not running away this time.(🫵😎)
If this is all true, then you are going to eat my fists...(🤯😱)
landlord. (😐️😐️)"
I jumped into the game thinking to have only four episodes, like the version suggested (chapter 1 - episode 4). However, I'm currently at episode 7 and this game still delivers!! Like, holy sh**, does this game ever end? Please stop developing characters and making them more and more likeable, it makes me feel bad for not choosing them in the beginning. Please, stop being good at writing!!
(Just kidding of course, fantastic game and I am surprised to see it hasn't drawn more attention, yet)
I think the "choose relationship" mechanic should be ditched. Even when using default choices, it makes dialogues and characters look off and weird. I've seen this system in two other games and not a single time have I found it convincing.
It may work in AVN mostly focused around the seggs aspect, but when you try to tell a story, it's not great.
If anybody is having trouble with their saves made into a version prior to 0.7 not showing in 0.8, here's how I "fixed" it for me:
Let's say, I made a save in 0.6. When I load the game in 0.7, this save is showing into the "load" menu. However, when I open the game in 0.8, this save is not showing anymore.
So, to fix this, I have to load the 0.6 save in 0.7, then re-save it so that it shows in the "Load" menu of 0.8.
(I do not know if this is caused by the game version changes or by the fact I made those saves on another machine back then)
Hope this helps.
Make sure your previous saves are showing in the .renpy directory.
I have an issue where saves made on versions prior to version 7 aren't showing at all (saves that were made in 0.7 do show, but a save made in version 0.6 will not). So, I had to open the game in 0.7, load every save I had (in 0.7, saves made in 0.6 do appear) and re-save it so that they would show in 0.8.
When trying to launch the game on Linux, this error appears:
X Error of failed request: BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib length error) Major opcode of failed request: 18 (X_ChangeProperty) Serial number of failed request: 583 Current serial number in output stream: 583
I downloaded the game twice and nothing changes. It never happened to any Ren'Py game I have played before, and there's been quite a lot of them.
I'll try to investigate the issue but this should be fixed to avoid further complaints.
You already said like one month ago that you didn't like the graphics:
"I'm sorry but the models look uncanny and ugly.
And if you downvote it, go cry about it"
No need to post another productive comment of yours, I'm sure everybody here is now aware of your very valuable opinion and will take great note of it.
Thank you for taking the trouble to make a good game with a convincing story. Admittedly, the graphics are a little off-putting at first, especially compared to other AVNs with very realistic models, but you soon get used to them, as the way the characters are written gives them a great deal of charm.
Once In a Lifetime is one of those rare AVNs that are restoring the genre's reputation. In a sea of AVNs made simply to appeal to an audience with low expectations in order to squeeze money out of them, with a story little more elaborate than amateur porn, badly done animations, poorly polished scenes and really mediocre dialogue, it really pulls its weight and shows that writing convincing AVNs isn't for everyone, but when it is, great things can be achieved.
Thanks and good luck with Eternum. I'm still a student, but as soon as I can afford it, you're on the list of people I'll be donating to without delay. 🙂
Edit: Actually nevermind, spending a few dozen euros won't kill me, after all.
