This jam isn't ranked, theres no judges or results.

Does the game have to entirely fit within the  20 seconds or could I have multiple rounds / levels that are each 20 seconds long?

:(

I think the minimum version I have it set to is 7, so that's not the problem.

It's less a verification issue but rather an issue that came up during the verification process. Apparently they couldn't verify my account because you have to be 18+ in order to be a dev on Google Play. How wonderful 😊

I don't use butler, so maybe it's just some issues with the apk that I have to fix. I'll ask the C3 community again

Recently Google Play decided to remove all of my games due to a super dumb verification issue (thanks a lot google), and so I wanted to upload those games on itch to preserve them and keep them playable. I use Construct 3, and I am able to export the APK, but when I attempt to download the file on my phone, after asking if I wish to install the app, it states "App not installed as package appears to be invalid". I also tried downloading other users' Android games and those worked just fine, so I believe it isn't an issue with my device.

I asked the C3 forums and I was suggested to ask here, does someone know why it does this? And how do I fix it? Thanks a lot!

Which judge gave the most trouble? The robot or the snake? I'm just trying to figure out what I should have balanced more

Yeah I should've tried to emphasize speed more than just saying "go fast" a few times in the game

Yeah I really tried to push that but I think I should've shown more examples in-game and not just the screenshots

Each judge scores differently, the robot scores accuracy (but is pretty generous), the snake judges speed, and the guy judges how hard the reference is to draw

Yeah I tried to emphasize the whole "Speed > accuracy" thing but I probably should've shown an example in the game and not just in the screenshots and video. People playing too slow and going for perfect accuracy was something I was worried would happen

Yeah I used a different tool for nub city, it just takes a lot longer to make the art that way which I didn't really have time for since this was just 48 hours, whereas nub city was 10 days

Yeah art is definitely not my strong suit. I did try to somehow pass off the bad art as intentional but tbh i just need to get good at art haha

Each judge will give points/money based on a different factor:
The robot will judge on accuracy, which according to you, you have been accurate.

The human will judge based on how difficult the reference and scale is, this usually never ends up below 3 anyways.

The snake will judge based on speed. The game is meant to be played very quickly, and the robot is pretty forgiving when it comes to mistakes. My guess is that you were just being super slow and got scored low by the snake, causing them to not give you any money.

To see how fast you should be drawing, watch the video that is in the game's description

I use Construct 3 for my games. I wouldn't really know what to suggest other than just start with small games, and eventually you'll be able to make bigger ones when you are more experienced. I've used C3 for about 3 years now.

Amazing game! Can't wait to see what the full release is like.

Yeah I really should've spent more time on optimization haha

And the strategy idea you had is great i wish I would've thought of that

Yeah selling buildings is something I really should've done, I thought not having it would've added more of a space management aspect but it's really just an annoyance if anything once it starts to get more cramped

Yeah the flashing expansions thing is a bug I thought I fixed, it happens after you have 3 or more expansions because it tries to reroll ones you already have but since there is not other one you don't have it'll keep cycling through forever.

As for optimization there wasn't a whole lot I could think of to do without causing some weird collision issues, maybe I'll try again in the future

Thank you! Yeah I barely finished it, and I stayed up late pretty much every single night 😭

Fun and its cool to go super fast and efficient, but starting every level over after one fail got really annoying, and unless I'm doing something wrong a bunch of the puddles in Level 2 just don't work at all.

Yeah selling makes sense, I originally didn't do it because I thought having to manage your space could be fun but you never really get to a point where you run out of space by the time the raids get too difficult

(1 edit)

Really relaxing and fun game, but near the end it was a lot to manage, and the colors got a bit difficult to understand / remember. Really well polished though, Good job!

Thanks so much! Yeah anything that deals splash damage really needs to be nerfed, sometimes it can be ridiculously powerful, especially since the nub AI makes them clump up a lot.

As for the wandering thing, it does make sense to make them go not so close to the edge but I guess I overlooked that. Maybe I'll do that in the future

yeah i aint winning great job on this

It is likely it will be annual, but so far it technically isn't, since this is the first time.

Designing good difficulty for my games is definitely one of my biggest struggles, so I wanted to see if I did good with this game. If you could give any feedback on difficulty for the game let me know.

By the way, the rooms are split into 3 difficulties, shown by color. Easy rooms are green, and get harder with Yellow and even herder with Red. I am pretty consistently able to reach the red rooms (at 200m), but since I am the dev I would obviously have more skill and time in the game. If you could tell me if you thought it was too hard/easy, how far you made it if you remember, and if you ever made it to the red rooms, that'd be super helpful.

Here is the link to the game is you need it, in case you forgot how you did if you played it before. https://certified-bozo.itch.io/rising-tower

I've gotten through all but 6 games, and I agree with what snugpig said about it being a smaller jam

I'll have to check later, but I know I was using Chrome. The computer itself is windows. I'll try to get more specifics later

The rooms themselves aren't random, in a separate layout I had 12 room templates that would get randomly picked to be put on top of the tower. I have 36 rooms in total, 12 rooms for 3 difficulties (green, yellow, and red). Harder rooms would spawn the higher you get.

Great art, but I could barely read anything. I was using Chrome, and my guess is you were using a SpriteFont object and it didn't work.

Really fun and well made despite Construct's 3D limitations! Great job. also how did you get the spinny door to work with 3d physics what is this magic i have so many questions :)

I absolutely love the art, especially how the shapes sort of "merge" together. Only downside is that is can get really cramped and feel nearly impossible around levels 7 and up.

Yeah that is definitely one of the biggest inspirations of this game, I really like KoT so i decided to make my own version of it :)

Fun little memory game, however you are able to press button before the sequence ends and this also causes some bugs

well that escalated quickly

Just a heads up I don't think AI art is allowed

Idk if it was just my computer but the full screen button didn't do anything
