Man, this game's a tough one. But you did a fantastic job with it. The controls are tight, the movement feels fluid without getting too floaty and the art & concept are great.

As others have mentioned, the jump does feel like it could go just a little higher, as it was a struggle to get through the opening levels because I kept hitting the edge of platforms rather than getting on top of them.

Overall, a great project. Honestly with some good music & sound effects, I think you could turn this into something marketable.

I'll start by saying I thought your game was fantastic. It fits the theme well, it's a super creative concept, and it's fun to play.

I did run into two odd bugs. After dying on my first attempt, I noticed that enemy ships stopped spawning during the next playthrough, which made it really easy to get to the end. Second, I noticed that sometimes it's actually possible for the player ship to shoot itself. I usually managed this when I had the ship in a spin, but it wasn't consistent.

One additional bit of feedback I'll give - the opening informational text scrawl felt like it took a bit too long to get through. I think an easy fix for that might be to let the player click or hit some key on their keyboard to skip the actually scrolling of the text and just read the finished paragraphs (like a lot of RPGs let you do). That way people can read at whatever pace they prefer, rather than the pace the letters appear.

Great job overall. Thanks for making this and sharing it with us!

The name itself pulled me in, and the message at the end was a perfect send-off.

You put together a great little project here. I saw you mention that this is your second game, so I'm blown away by how cohesive & enjoyable of a product you managed to get together in a week, outside assets or no.

My only criticisms are exceedingly minor. Firstly, I think you'd benefit from having the jumping bricks stand out from the background a bit more. I found myself getting a little lost a few times when I couldn't clearly see where I needed to be jumping. Second, I think it'd be great if your enemies had a more unified theme, especially if that theme had to do with school in some way. Maybe they're teachers, janitors, the principal, or a bully.

Like I said, small things. Overall I think you did a great job.

Well done! Keep making games!

This game fit the theme brilliantly and in a clever way. I think it might help to give the player a little more guidance with how to follow the mechanics of your game, maybe with a tutorial run through of an easier puzzle or something like that.

Adding in some audio - even just some royalty free music - would probably go a long way as well.

All in all though, this was nice work. Well done!

Love what you came up with here. And I think how you chose to fit it to the theme was clever & funny.

I struggled with the combat, admittedly. I managed to get through the first round once with some dodging, but blocking with the shield felt somewhat unhelpful just because of how fast the enemies are able to swing compared to the player. I think adding some kind of slight stagger to enemies when the player successfully blocks an attack might help with the timing.

I was a big fan of the assets & composition that went into this, and I think the music was well-picked.

Solid work!

This is easily the best jam game I've seen so far (of this jam and any other I've been apart of). It looks great, is fun to play and explore, and feels good, even for something put together in a week. I'm not really one for Souls games myself, but if you turned this into a full-featured product, I'd buy it and play it.

One interesting thing that I did notice - and I don't know if this is either a positive or negative, really - is that this game made my computer work, and given that it's a fairly new machine with some decent hardware, I found that surprising. I'm not sure if that's a graphical optimization issue or some other intensive processing issue, but I thought I'd point it out all the same.

Thanks for making this! I'll be sure to share it with my jam collaborators and my friends as well. It deserves to be seen.

Congrats on the first jam project!

As a fan of the low poly environmental art style myself, I loved looking at the environment of your game as I went through it. I think you did a good job of keeping to the theme with what appeared to be either a looping path or progressive generation of new paths as you went.

I did notice that I wasn't able to collect some of the coins on the far right side. I think they might've been just a little too far out of the player's reach. Also, if you ever opt to revisit this project, I think it would be cool to see a trip or stumble animation of some kind when the player collides with obstacles they can possibly fall over.

Good work! I hope you participate in more jams in the future! :D

This was a blast! It's simple, sweet, and to the point. You mention it's "not the best interpretation of the theme," but honestly, sometimes a simple interpretation is best, and I think this fits that bill.

The audio design really pulled me in, and the screen shake gives the game a really great feeling of impact when you collide with the enemies. I'd love to see what this game could grow into given more time and the opportunity to expand on it.

Great work!

Thanks! Much appreciated
