I used RPG Maker MV, many classic games where made with rpg maker vx ace or xp and there is a newer version called MZ, but I like MV because there are tons of free resources and tutorials. You can buy rpg maker directly from their website but I like the STEAM version because it's easy to get any dlc packs.
But I really didn't use many fancy things since a VN is mostly pictures and in my opinion it's very easy to use.
