The game is really cute! Never thought I’d see John Wick as a frog, the music and sound effects were great, as well as the simple artstyle.
There were some minor issues with the controls, as the tongue’s momentum seemed a little random, sometimes pulling you up really fast when grappling on a wall, and other times going extremely slowly. I like being able to jump at the end of a grapple to climb up on a platform, but I don’t like how there’s no way to refresh the jumps until you land on the floor again.
The quests would do well with more indicators, as I have skipped over one too many dialogues, and not know what I’m supposed to do.
Might be a Web version bug, but the cursor does not return re-focus into the game the moment the game loses focus of it. So pressing “Esc” immediately breaks the game until refreshing the page.
After finding some fireflies, I was pretty lost at what to do, just aimlessly wandering around the map before stumping along an NPC. A way to guide the player to give them some direction would be great.
The flowerpots in the game are a soft lock, as the moment you drop into them, it’s almost impossible to get out of them even with grappling. Which forces you to have to reset to get out of them.
Overall a simple and fun 3D game, but would do well with some polishing!
Cool game , the tongue mechanic is super fun grappling on to stuff, and the rail grinding is super cool too, the character and talking were funny too , flies definitely felt like they were right next to me with that buzzing,
Congrats on completing the jam! Very cute game - definitely gives off the Banjo Kazooie vibes you were looking for! Very impressed that you got this much done during the jam - 3D and a 3D platformer at that is very hard! Unfortunately I don't know anything about John Wick so I couldn't get any of the references - if there were any.
Level Design Feedback - Some of the terrain was difficult to navigate with the controls - ex. bookshelf. I also feel like you don't need to rely on floating/rotating platforms - I feel like you could get some inspiration from Chibi Robo for designing the levels in a home like this. It would also help if the coins were lined up in a way that would encourage players to chase them down and lead them around.
Game Mechanics Feedback - Sometimes the tongue sent you flying and other times it didn't really. Sometimes momentum sent you farther than expected but other times not as much. Had a lot of fun swinging around, but it was hard to latch onto enemies - maybe a targeting system like for Sonic - since I imagine that's the inspiration.
Otherwise the Sound and Art design definitely reinforced the cute, funky vibes.
I think that with refinement this could be a really fun game :)
love it <3
Funky game with rope-swinging mechanics. Dialogues were hilarious!
Music and sounds nicely fit the gameplay and are unobtrusive. Character speaking sounds could need normalizing as some are too loud.
Visuals are cute, bright and cartoonish, pasting eyes on alive objects was a good touch. Floor can be toned down a bit, so that looking at it from above wouldn't blast you with pure unforgiving white.
Game is pretty easy to understand, if you didn't understand/find a mechanic, it will be explicitly told to you after some time. Level design really feels built for speed platforming! Sadly, the game didn't recapture my mouse and I firstly haven't noticed that it does capture it on launch, so I started and ended my playthrough with only 180deg vision. Also caught a bug that if you jump on/off a tip of a web, you'll be teleported to the other end of it.
Great game! Had fun even with the broken camera! Boss was impossible with it though, I couldn't see it!
Banjo-Kazooie meets Chameleon Twist, had a lot of fun! Managed to beat the final boss, was pretty brutal ;)
That was pretty slick. This really tickled my Banjo-Kazooie nostalgia. I’m impressed with all the implementation and level design. I bet it would feel like a whole new game if you had 2 more weeks to work on it. Well done!
I love the John Wick parody. The personalities of the frog and spider really shine through. Grinding the web was fun. I got pretty good at the grapple mechanic. Got up on top of the microwave. Great game, thanks for making it.
Really cute game. I love the grappling hook mechanic! I only got stuck on the sliding thingy next to the bookshelf once, but the reset option allowed me to just go back to the last checkpoint. Great job! :)
Loved the game! The idea, the art, great fun overall
cool game! I had to turn down my mouse sensitivity a bit but overall very fun <3
Thank you! I hadn't even considered mouse sensitivity so I'll be keeping that in mind for stuff we add
I like the art and while a bit rough around the edges the gameplay is fun too. I only realized you could grapple with the right mouse button. The color difference was to subtle to see and it also didn’t work the first time. I reminded me of the old Rare 3D platformers on the N64, good times
Thank you for the feedback! Definitely gonna add in some more tutorials to that starting area
It's maybe because I like 3D platformers, it was very fun to play it! Two complaints I have is 1. floor could use some texture, it looks like default unfinished thing now 2. It's hard for me to connect game to the game jam theme. Maybe if the goal was to kill something instead of collecting things, it would make more sense.
Appreciate the feedback! Definitely wanted to tie in a final boss into the game to really cement in the jams theme and John Lick's character but we ran out of time. I'm glad you had fun playing it!
Bright and cute! Love running around, licking stuff, and collecting coins!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
The game could use some overall polish; footsteps did not match regarding audio and animation, aiming was a bit off from where the crosshair is(especially when aiming at flies), some turning animations (unless this is intended), some dialogue triggering multiple times, some small bugs(got stuck inside an object while grappling and my grapple tongue became HUGE at one point).
These are minor things, as it otherwise works well as a 3D platformer. Like the frog tongue grapple hook idea.
Well done.
I appreciate the feedback! Definitely some stuff we'd like to polish and add into a finalized version.
Fantastic game! Love the vibes and super fun!
Thank you!!!
A great comedic 3d platformer. Easy to use controls make it a blast to play. Loved the challenge levels and how they force use of harder gameplay mechanics and have tighter platforming. and great dialogue makes it even better.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the challenge levels!
Super chill experience, mechanics were easy to understand, and tied together with an impressive number of 3D assets for a game jam!
Thank you! Gabriel and CQ are incredible at putting out 3D assets, and they put together a great pipeline for asset creation in the short span of the jam. I didn't even have time to implement and place everything they produced
What a cute game! I love the color palette and art style, especially our froggy protagonist. I had some trouble progressing as my RMB doesn't seem to want to grab onto the metal pipes, so maybe increasing the hitbox on the skinnier objects might help. Of course I'm also playing with a touchpad so maybe this could be just my setup issue. Overall, the game feels good to play and I'd love to see more of it!
Thank you! The pipes are actually not grappleable in the game so that's not on you. I wanted it so you could grab them and then start grinding but didn't have the time to implement it for the jam. Gonna be sure to add that when we put out a more polished version! I appreciate the feedback!
Ooh that makes perfect sense. They did look grappleable so I thought I was overthinking it, but definitely would love to play again when it’s polished. Thanks for the clarification!
Very charming and absurd. It was fun! Then I got a bit of a bug lol not sure what I did but my grapple became bigger than me and would just get stuck right on me! I also got stuck halfway through a rail, but that fixed itself after a little wiggling around. Aside from that minorly game-breaking bug, the game was very enjoyable (:
Ooh! I appreciate the heads up! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
