Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Brainwashed soldier brawling his way through a war. How the story unfolds depends on winning or loosing fights.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The squad the player belongs to was created to be used as a secret weapon against the enemy. The soldiers, and thus the player, are the weapon. Additionally, the blocks are supposed to represent hand to hand combat fighters. Their body is their weapon.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
The story is complete, but not the brawler part.

Congrats on finishing the jam!

It was a short and sweet story. Even though the art was fairly simple, the animation for crouching or the punch was very smooth. I liked how the colors easily and quickly represented the strength/weaknesses. However, one thing to keep in mind is that people who are colourblind would have difficulty with this aspect. Adding an additional shape or change in silhouette to the and the player would help.

I found it very easy to cheese the game by "kicking" the enemy (i.e. crouch and punch). It seems like the GDD talked about audio, but I didn't hear any - would've been nice to have but probably was cut to reach the deadline. Or a bug.

Otherwise for the story, I had hoped that as you fought each enemy, their blood was on your hands and would change the players own color. Might be an interesting concept to explore. Great job!

Thank you for the feedback!

Yes, the color coding will go unnoticed by colorblind people. I know folks with red-green color blindness, and they can distinguish the main colors fine. I did plan to have the stats next to the VS, so you can see the three color values no matter if you can see the colors or not. As with the sound, I didn't come around to get it in.

Nice idea! Doesn't go well with the lore in this one, but interesting to keep in mind for sure. Maybe I can have two different attacks, one using the own color and one the color of the last opponent as you suggested... Maybe when I finished putting in everything I planned after the jam.

Thanks again!

This is a really simple framework I think that could use some more spice to it. From a technical side I would definitely allow users to use WASD in addition to arrow keys. The game is a little easy to cheese, jump in and spam spacebar. Maybe having more ways to interact like the enemy crouching or blocking to mix up the player. On top of that just adding more juice with health bar flashes or screen flashes if the player gets hit. I liked the SFX and the bits of story interspersed in.

Good job!

Thanks! Yes, WASD is on the list. Didn't think of it at all, learned that in this jam. I'm going to work on the AI and on interesting attack choices after the jam. ...SFX? Maybe you had some in a different tab that accidentally matched, I didn't have enough time to add sound effects. Glad you liked the story :-)

Crouch is the ultimate move, no enemy can defeat me when I crouch. Fun game

Developer

Thanks! It sure is OP. Then again, the most interesting storylines require to be OP sometimes

Great start! I liked the game idea and how the story was driven. Good prototype to build upon. Refine fighting mechanics, create different enemies and maybe some surprises thrown in there :)

Developer

Thanks!!

Cool game, i like the lil blocks, the gameplay is simple and the story is nice! good job~ :3

Developer

Thank you!

Yeah, there isnt really much to talk about.

The basics are there, together with a story. Though if you wish to have the story actually be impactful, it needs something more than just text. Doesnt mean it needs to be a 3D mocap voice acted master piece xD

Developer

Thanks! True. Blocks don't look that cool talking, but I'll think about a voice-over.

Sadly don't have arrowkeys on my keyboard, so was unable to play :(

I'd suggest adding WASD as well another time :D

Developer

Oh no, sorry. I will add WASD next time! Thanks!

Not a whole lot to talk about gameplay wise, other than it serves the overall narrative pretty well.  Definitely feels unfinished like you mentioned, but the idea has potential with a more engaging combat loop.

Keep it up!

Developer

Thank you!

Seeing the rectangles box is surprisingly funny/satisfying. I don't know if it's intentional or not but you both take damage if you just walk over the enemy. I won a couple times somehow doing just that.

Developer (1 edit)

Oh darn, I'll need to deactivate the area instead of just setting the scale to 0.
Thank you!!

this game was cool, I think the story was interesting, and I know you said it's not complete but for the gameplay, i don't really see any reason to not just duck under everything. I liked the minimalistic style it played into the themes nicely i think. Good job on completing your game :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

Yes, the crouching is OP, I couldn't find the sweet spot between useless and OP, so I opted for OP to make it easier to see all endings. Maybe most people see the all winning ending now because of that, though. Perhaps I'll make the AI react by ducking themselves after a while to make it more interesting.

Nice engagement with the theme! I'm a sucker for multiple endings.

Developer

Thanks! :-)
