A really great concept and excellent execution! Only complaint I have is the font used on the papers clues was unreadable, I was barely making what it said. Not sure if that was intentional or a resolution issue.
Thank you! It is intentional but I definitely could have telegraphed that better.
Really awesome game! It was very visual interesting. It reminds me a lot of a game called 'Subway Midnight' with that disturbing vibe and flat characters.
The animated text is also a very nice touch. That paired with the sound design of this game just makes it feel a lot more polished. The sounds for the game are perfect!
Narratively the game is also very intriguing and done pretty well. I also really like the bad handwriting thing it's pretty silly and is a cool concept for this type of game. Since it takes time to read the handwriting you can get ambushed by the monster which adds tension.
Also the way the monster comes in with the flickering lights is really cool. And overall the visual effects are really well done like the chromatic aberration and subtle lighting.
The only thing I think that was a big downside was just the way the hiding and the monster worked. I feel like the monster isn't enough of a setback so it doesn't really carry any weight and it just feels like a minor hinderance. And a lot of times although it was intentional, in some places it just appears way too often and gets a bit annoying.
Overall really cool experience and was very enjoyable. Very impressive!
this blew me away! the vibes are immaculate, i love the crispy visuals combined with the flat assets, it has such a great look and feel. although traversing the ladder maze was a bit finicky, especially since jump and enter the closet are the same button, and i got trapped in a closet and couldnt exit on my second foray into Mr. Wood's house. the whole thing has a super spooky/uncomfortable vibe that i really enjoyed! can't believe you also got great audio design in there in the time limit, awesome job!
What did I just play. It definitely triggered a lot of emotion in me and that is a great compliment. Great job!
Neat story and design, but I found the hiding mechanic more annoying than scary.
I was not expected to be so emotionally devastated today
Bravo.
I made a game about cute little mice if you wanna try it.
Oh. My. God
The storytelling, the gameplay, the design, literally everything about this game is AMAZING.
And plus you made this late too?! (i saw you make the first room on the discord server)
I am really amazed.
The game is so trippy and cool! A very good game, with a great atmosphere! I haven't played much, but I already love it! I added it to my Interesting Games collection and will play later.
I like the game! It feels so unsettling. While the enviorment is in 3D, your character can only move left or right, which makes me feel very trapped; it really adds to the atmosphere. And while Mr. Wood's house is creepy, I'd argue that the main character's house is even creepier. The game leaves you with lots of questions and makes you want more! I would love to explore more of it, but unfortunately I couldn't solve the first riddle, because I couldn't read the note. I think that maybe you could change the font or make the text bigger? Very nice game, a lot of atmosphere! I didn't really find anything related to papercraft, but perhaps it's because I didn't progress into the game enough.
Thank you so much for the review! If you feel like taking another crack at it, I did make some modifications to make things a little easier to parse. The code for the first door is this number divided by 13: 56914
Thank you for the hint! I decided to try it again, and... Wow. It's incredible how this game manages to be so unsettling without using any jumpscares. It's rare for me to enjoy a horror game, but this one just hit the right spot. The way the atmosphere changes with each level, and the ghosts start to get less and less transparent - it really makes it feels like you descdend into this horrible situation. It gives you just enough answers for you to somewhat understand what's going on, but also allows you to use your own thinking and imagination to try and figure out what the game is about. My only nitpick is that it seems that the ghosts only appear in a certain location? They usually don't appear unless I step on the tile near the closet. Towards the end of the game, I hid in the closet and then barely got out because ghosts kept spawning nonstop. Which I honestly don't mind, because it added to the atmosphere. Walking in a house with a bunch of ghosts going towards you felt really unnerving. Well done!
Holy moly good freaking job with this! Cant believe this was made in 72 hours. Well Done!
I wasn’t expecting the horror vibe blended with the paper-style aesthetic in a 2.5D world—love that! The world-building is really well done. I did get stuck, though, because I couldn’t figure out the code. The paper was extremely hard to read, so I couldn’t make out what it said.
