How did the jam go for everyone? What did you submit? What do you think makes your game special? Was participating in this jam a fun experience? The jam went okay for me I over scoped and it ended up really buggy, but it was a fun experience. My game if you want to check it out https://silasmathguy.itch.io/poison-vs-medicine

For myself, I think the jam has gone pretty well.  For my game I tried some different things out that I hadn't done before, most worked and some didn't.  Scope was a bit of a problem but overall I'm happy about the game I've made.  In this jam I wanted to experiment with mechanics and see if my music and pixel art skills had improved as much as I though.  While I haven't had much feedback on my game yet, the feedback I've had has been positive (yours included) so even though I didn't get everything in the game I wanted, I'm happy with what I achieved.

If anyone else is interested in having a look at what I was able to do, I'd appreciate it.

I'm glad that people seem to be enjoying it.

I'm definitely thinking of carrying on with it, but I think I will need to figure out a plan for making it something more.  I will likely need to tidy up the code, fix any bugs already in the game (and any that arise from tidying up), add in the pieces I didn't have time to sort out in the jam, and then consider how I would like to grow the game further.  I'm already thinking I would like to add in a story element that you can play through, but this would also mean new areas, new enemies and new items.  The enemy AI and the combat system needs an overhaul, along with the Inventory and Crafting system.  I had planned to introduce NPC's, so these would need a purpose, as well as AI, dialogue and maybe even quests.  To keep the gameplay interesting there would need to be objectives to complete and possibly puzzles to solve or another way of maintaining engagement.

This is just the direction I would like to take it at the moment, there might be other directions I could take it and rather than making it more an RPG style game, I could possibly lean into the survival and crafting elements.

At the moment though, I just want to wait and see the feedback I get through the rest of the voting period, it might either narrow my thoughts or help me consider a different direction for it.

I think it went decent all things considered! Managed to get out a playable product without really any bugs so far. Only that i unfortunately ended up not being able to make it easier to play due to overscoping and some features were lacking in detail.

But I'm just happy that I managed to learn a bunch of useful things for gamedev :) especially for my first jam.

If anyone wanna check my game out :D

What is your favorite part about your game.

Well im quite happy with my art given it was my first time trying out pixel art for real.

For my first solo jam it went pretty well, a little incomplete on the leveling side and the game state is a little buggy. I ran to a bit of trouble handling godot at first I had fun overall, especially in making the game art

If you want, you can check out my game here:

I think it turned out really well! Especially for my first jam. I definitely overscoped and didn't get to add as much enemy variety or player movement as I wanted but I'm still happy with the final product and I learned so much about game development from this jam (:

Submitted

I over scoped to. I thought I could do it, but it was way to much.

The jam went very easily, we made the game quickly. We had a lot of time to polish the finished game, fixing bugs and adjusting the difficulty. In addition, we published the game the day before the end of the jam, thanks to which we were able to get a ton of feedback on the game and find the latest bugs. The game turned out to be small, but well-developed from all sides.

Was a pretty fun jam- did enjoy the process and was very happy with what I had made. One thing I did learn, HDRP doesn't build to webGL which definitely impacted my ratings overall. Loved some of yalls though!

Nice job making a game.

It was really fun to make the game and learn during the short time frame. In a jam, the important thing is to learn and challenge yourself to create something new.
It's my first time making a third-person game: https://itch.io/jam/coco-code-gamejam-1/rate/3308945

It's my second game jam, in my first jam I overscoped the development and I didn't test my final build, so it ended in a buggy broken mess. So for this jam I submited the first prototype in the first few days and then used the remaining of the time to improve it. https://itch.io/jam/coco-code-gamejam-1/rate/3303032

TLDR: Always play test your game before and after submiting it.

I also overscoped.

Honestly for my first game jam its pretty good, i dont Care about to win. I just got since i realsed my game in the jam 750 views in my game that's awsome. And if you played my game you might asking what does it have With poison, so in my opnion a Zombie Virus is Like a POISON let me know if you think in a other way.

As my second game jam, it went pretty well. I did most of it without using tutorials. I plan on making game without having to rely on tutorials and this is my first step. I tried to add wall jumping but I couldn't, so I left it out. I did the level design last last so the the levels are short. Overall, I still need to improve and game jams have helped me.

Submitted

Being able to do most of it without tutorials is already pretty good going.

Don't be afraid to use them though, I used to work in business IT and noticed that even professional coders need to use cheat sheets and look stuff up from time to time.

You can have a firm grasp of a language or system and still need help from time to time.

Considering this was our first game jam ever, we think it went really well! It was really satisfying seeing our initial concept evolve with time. Making our sprites and sounds from scratch, basically having full control of everything, is so thrilling. We didn't expect community engagement to be so great.

Thanks <3

For me I think i learn new things of my game engine and it's my first "complete"game  for me. And I am satisfied with it.

It was my first jam so i was severely unprepared and i was sure i kept my idea within a manageable scope but i failed. However i learned some new skills and a lot of new strategies to help me out with the next jam. I didnt manage to finish the game but i do think it had a great concept.

Check it out if you have time, i know its not winning any awards haha. But im super proud of what i accomplished for my first jam.

It was me and my jam partner's first ever jam, unfortunately we spent so much time messing around with our enemy AI we spent all our time on it and only had about 17 hours total to make levels, make multiple enemy types, create menus, etc etc, that we ended up missing the deadline due to me not having a verified email and not realizing how long it'd take to upload the file, but it was also broken cuz we didn't have time to playtest the whole thing unfortunately, I also joined the brackey's game jam though and I'm going to take the knowledge of how the first one went into that jam, although it'll be just me this time, can't wait though
