2FA Auth Lockout Problems And Support Issues #149868
-
Select Topic AreaBug BodyThis is a serious issue that I am creating a post about here now as the problem has gotten to the point of being ridiculous. I have two accounts now as my first was locked out of due to a series of issues with Github's system and my phone causing a complete lockout of my repository. This led to the creation of ticket 3093575 to resolve the problem appealing to any sort of method available to confirm my ownership of the account from SMS number to anything else. This also led to a creation of a BBB complaint that has been ignored with ticket 22812620 . The issue here is two fold- failure to respond to requests to resolve account issues not caused by the account owner themselves, and also providing the means to have the owner request alternate methods of authentication even if that includes just having them switch to one of the other methods available (in my case SMS unless some other systemic issue occurred on Github's end causing that to be nonexistent now). I want a response to the above ticket number and hopefully in both cases to ensure resolution here as this has been an unnecessarily stressful situation that needs to be resolved in my favor as I was not the cause of the issues experienced with either my phone or Github. I have the repos (even private) and can provide the things needed to prove ownership. Email hasn't changed and neither has my phone number and I will gladly provide even my driver's license as a proof of the person requesting which they can validate through a video call. OR if unlinking an email from an account closes it off for good then having that serve within a timeframe as an implicit acknowledgement that the repo no longer needs to exist and having it delete within that timeframe. I do not want my repo just floating out there without my being able to access it ESPECIALLY after having the series of unfortunate events that took place and I had to replace my phone over (but again kept number and email address). This is even my other account and both emails reference each other proving my ownership. I need a response ASAP to actually grant access back and close this account as it isn't needed. Thanks |

Hi @pr1v4te4cc0unt , If you’ve lost access to your two-factor authentication (2FA) credentials, you can regain access to your account by using your recovery codes or another recovery option. Please visit GitHub’s Virtual Assistant to explore your available options. This community is managed by GitHub employees, but it is not a support forum. You have done everything necessary on your end by opening a ticket on our Support page. This is a public forum, and the community is unable to assist with nor escalate your ticket, but we can assure you it is in the right place. It will be answered in the order it was received based on our team's resources and the amount of tickets ahead of yours. As no other Community Discussions team members will be able to provide additional help with account related questions I am going to close this discussion. We appreciate your understanding! |

Hi @pr1v4te4cc0unt,
I'm sorry that my reply contained a typo, which is my fault. However, for account-related issues, the only way to resolve them is by opening a support ticket, which you have done. Your ticket will be answered in the order it was received based on our team's resources and the number of tickets ahead of yours.
