This is my passion, and it started with the voices of young people. Just over two years ago I came alongside a group of PR students who said they didn't feel cared about by our community outside of school and church. - According to the MN Student Survey Data, over 70% of young people in PR(and statewide) say adults in their community don't care about them outside of school activities. - We brought together a group of caring adults who wanted to change this narrative and asked the youth what they wanted to do about it. Two things were named. 1. Regular activities that weren't just for little kids and adults 2. A Youth Center They put together a presentation and went to the City Council to ask for support, shared their vision at community events, and organized as "The Youths_PR"(Learn more about them here: https://lnkd.in/gRmuFwwt ) We went to work in partnership with the Friendship Kitchen coalition, created the Pelican Rapids Bridge Center, and formed as a non-profit(official 501(c)3 as of 12/26/24). Last December the Congregational Church donated their building which will host a youth center, commercial "friendship" kitchen, Family Resource Center, and event space for community use. Through a grassroots effort, we have raised just over $80k for programming and initial projects, which was enough to get us started with Phase I of new duct work and mold removal. After completion this spring, we will move into Phase II of the design and construction of the Youth Center in June. To keep the project moving, we need to continue to raise funds and plan to start a capital campaign as soon as we can find and hire a project manager(lmk if you are anyone you know would be interested! It's a hybrid role). Below is our online platform for tax-deductible donations. Also, please share and help us spread the word! My Theory of Action: If we invest in youth agency by supporting young people to have a voice, make decisions, take leadership roles, and create spaces of inclusion and belonging within our communities where diversity is celebrated and connections are nurtured, Then, young people will feel supported, valued, and recognized as integral members of their communities, which leads to a deeper sense of inclusion and belonging, fostering positive relationships and resilience, and ultimately addresses a root cause of poor mental health by mitigating feelings of isolation, marginalization, and disconnection.
At The Bridge Center, we know that community starts with people like you. Every act of kindness, every dollar, and every moment of your time brings us closer to achieving our mission of bridging generations, cultures, and community services. Our goal is to create a dynamic community hub in Pelican Rapids featuring a youth center, commercial kitchen, and rentable event space. This project seeks to create a vibrant, inclusive space for local youth, culinary innovation, and community gatherings. Together, we can create a brighter, more compassionate world for residents and visitors in Pelican Rapids. How you can help power our mission: Donate: Every dollar counts. Contribute now to help us reach our goal. https://lnkd.in/gFyESqNr Share: Share our campaign with your friends, family, and on social media. Your advocacy can amplify our impact. Volunteer: Your time and skills can make an impact too. Thank you for supporting our mission, your support is invaluable.

Save Cosmic Slop! (MAP Charity) ! We're facing our biggest challenge in nearly two decades—a threat that could close our doors forever. A proposed development by Cheyne Capital would place 310 flats next to our home, the Grade II listed Hope Foundry. This could jeopardize Cosmic Slop, our essential fundraiser, due to potential noise complaints. What can you do? **Sign our petition to protect MAP's future. **Request a Deed of Easement to safeguard our events from noise complaints. **Advocate for changes to the building plans, like replacing balconies with a wall. Every signature counts! Let's protect Leeds' cultural scene together. https://buff.ly/3YXbwBt

Basepoint staff donated critical funds for the important work of the Ecumenical Community Center (ECC) of Cedar Rapids. Basepoint Tax President Ron Detweiler, who has served as a longtime ECC board member, and Director of Public Relations Shelley Woods, met with ECC's Chief Operating Officer Robin Brunner to present the gift. ECC helps vulnerable community members through unexpected hardships and helps them find and regain stability. In the first nine months of 2024, ECC supported 1,680 community members with financial assistance, personal items, clothing, food, and referrals to other area agencies.
