Did you hear? The largest parcel of unprotected land within Grand Teton National Park is now officially protected as part of the park! The 640-acre Kelly Parcel, state trust land that for decades was at risk of being sold to developers, was purchased for $100 million, with the state using the proceeds to support Wyoming’s public education system. $62.4 million of the purchase price came from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), with the balance covered by private donations raised by Grand Teton National Park Foundation. Development of the land would have been devastating for elk, deer, pronghorn and other wildlife given that the Kelly Parcel is within a key wildlife migration corridor. We’re grateful to all those who supported the purchase and transfer to the National Park Service. We’re also proud to have worked with lawmakers for years to generate bipartisan support for permanent funding of LWCF, which uses offshore oil and gas revenues rather than taxpayer dollars to fund $900 million in investments in wildland protection and outdoor recreation each year. Poll Shows Strong Support for Strengthening Sage-Grouse Habitat Protections Hunters and anglers have long known that sage grouse conservation benefits many species in the sagebrush steppe. It turns out the majority of Western voters also want to strengthen sage grouse conservation! A recent poll conducted by The Pew Charitable Trusts shows overwhelming support for bolstering Bureau of Land Management safeguards for greater sage-grouse habitat. The BLM is amending its sage-grouse plans to consider new science in determining how to best conserve sage-grouse habitat on public lands across 10 Western states. The survey found robust support for BLM’s planning effort in rural counties where the iconic bird is found. Read more about the report at https://lnkd.in/gWB3qJRP

Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, part of one of the county's largest wildlife charities, is tackling rising energy costs while continuing their vital conservation work. In June 2024, Solarsense installed solar panels at their Head Office and Visitor Centre in Robinswood Hill Country Park. As a result, their summer energy bill was halved, and it is estimated their annual bill will reduce to just a quarter of its previous amount. Here’s what Lenka Cmelakova, the Trust's Facilities Manager, had to say about the installation: https://lnkd.in/e_eeSnXE The Wildlife Trusts #wildlifetrust #solar #cleanenergy #sustainability

We are so happy to share that the focus on our mission to RETURN BUFFALO TO THE LANDS, LIVES AND ECONOMIES of Native American people yielded another year of great results. With the help of our donors, funders, and partners in 2024, Tanka Fund: RETURNED 246 BUFFALO to their Native homelands. Tanka Fund’s work to restore Buffalo to tribal lands and caretakers fosters a revival of cultural, economic and ecological balance, supporting Native health and spiritual renewal. In addition to our partnership with The Nature Conservancy, Tanka Fund also worked with the Minnesota Zoo and private ranchers to acquire Buffalo for our caretaker partners. Tanka Fund is the only organization that works solely with and financially funds private Native American family- and community-owned Buffalo ranches. ADDED MORE RANCHER PARTNERS for a total of 24 NATIVE RANCHERS in the Tanka Fund family. We now partner with Native Buffalo ranchers in 8 states. There are currently 9 more Native ranchers in the process of becoming Tanka partners. Buffalo need caretakers, and we are focused on helping expand existing Native herds and giving new ranchers the assistance and animals they need. PROVIDED $937,813 in grants, Buffalo, equipment, fencing, and technical services to our rancher partners. The Cape Leopard Trust #Mobikraal project has been working closely with five test sites across southern Africa where prototypes of our design for an affordable, mobile and predator-proof kraal will be rigorously tested in 2025. Our pre-monitoring camera traps have spotted a wide array of species roaming around the farms, providing important baseline information. We look forward to the next phase of the project when the innovative design will be put through its paces, hopefully resulting in an effective, useful tool for predator-livestock conflict mitigation that will benefit communities globally. We would like to sincerely thank the test farms, partners and funders for their support in 2024. Mobi-kraal is supported by The Royal Commission for AlUla, Hans Hoheisen Charitable Trust, Van Tienhoven Foundation, Oppenheimer Generations Research & Conservation and Spoor & Fisher along with facilitating partners Shangani Holistic Ranch and Primate and Predator Project.

Helping Communities Reduce Risk from Natural Disasters 🏡 With extreme weather on the rise, communities across the country are turning to ‘nature-based solutions’ such as restoring floodplains, planting trees, and creating natural areas. Implementing nature-based solutions is largely up to each local community–but many planners are stretched thin and lack the resources to navigate the complex world of federal funding. This is where National Wildlife Federation's newly updated Nature-based Solutions Funding Database comes into play. Need help finding funding that fits your needs? Do you know what being a steward of the land means? Land stewardship represents a land trust's dedication to protecting the land forever. Permanent conservation involves not just the preservation of the land, but also its ongoing care. Pictured here, our monitoring team is installing a post for one of our easement signs. These signs are strategically placed around the borders of all the easements we oversee, indicating the type of easement in place ~ such as Conservation, Riparian, or Agriculture, including our contact information. Stewardship activities, such as this, encompass annual property monitoring and various duties outlined in the Land Trust Standards and Practices. Caring for the land can incur significant expenses. To assist with these costs, we have established a Stewardship Fund. A contribution of just $50 can cover the expense for two signs and posts placed on easements that Owl Creek Conservancy is working to protect. If you would like to support our efforts, please consider donating today through the link in our bio under ‘Give today.’ #PreserveAndProtect #ConserveLand #ProtectOpenSpaces #SavingLand #ForeverWild
