Saw this posted by a fellow EA and thought it's worth a share: "Being an executive assistant isn’t as simple as it might seem. It’s not just about putting someone in the role and expecting them to figure it out. Sure, with plenty of training and time, some might manage, but not everyone has the right skill set or personality for it. The role demands handling constant interruptions, determining what truly matters when everything feels urgent, and diving into tasks you've never done before just because they need to be completed. An EA needs to know a bit of everything since they’re often the go-to person for answers. Hiring an executive assistant might not seem as exciting as bringing on a marketing or sales professional, but EAs are the ones who fill the gaps. They’re force multipliers, and those with experience can start making an impact within days or weeks, rather than months."

Executive Assistants often ask me how to know if they’d excel in a Chief of Staff role… And while the CoS role isn’t the right next step for all EAs, it was the path I took myself and I’ve now supported countless EAs who have successfully taken this path as well. So I’m pretty good at identifying if you’d do well in this transition. 🤗 If you resonate with most of these: - Problem solver - Trustworthy - Goal oriented - Adaptable - Team player - Enjoy doing something new every day - Ready to take on more responsibility - Passionate about making visions reality ➡️ You’re more suited for a Chief of Staff role than you may realize. When you’re ready to learn more about this impactful career progression, DM me. I’m always happy to share my insight and experience moving from EA to CoS, as well as resources to help you on your journey from EA to CoS. 🚀 🔔 Connect and follow Melanie Jones for more insights on this career path. #executiveassistant to #chiefofstaff

Hello LinkedIn! It’s been a while since I’ve shared an update, so I thought now would be the perfect time to reintroduce myself and reflect on the journey that has shaped my career. I'm Calvin, an operations leader with a rich background spanning over 20 years in hospitality, real estate, and corporate environments. My career has been all about creating exceptional experiences, building strong teams, and driving efficiency across industries. Here are some highlights: 🔹Leading Operational Excellence at Page - As a Senior Associate driving operational excellence at Page for the past 8 years, I've focused on optimizing workflows, financial management, and promoting collaboration. Some of my proudest contributions include: ✅ Overseeing large-scale events and integrating cultural insights into firm-wide strategies as Houston’s “Culture Champion.” ✅ Streamlining HR initiatives to enhance recruitment, onboarding, and employee engagement. ✅ Negotiating contracts, managing substantial budgets, and improving operational efficiency, supporting over 300 employees. 🔹From Homes to Hospitality: Real Estate and Luxury Services - Before my tenure at Page, I balanced two powerhouse roles that honed my leadership skills: 🏡 As a real estate agent specializing in luxury home sales for 19 years, I mastered negotiation, market analysis, and delivering a first-class client experience. Helping families find their dream homes while ensuring smooth transactions was always my focus. 🏨 During my 13-year tenure at The Four Seasons Hotel, I honed the art of delivering unparalleled guest experiences, managing VIP interactions, and curating exceptional stays that set the standard for hospitality excellence—and loved every second of it. Across these roles, one theme has been constant: a commitment to excellence, innovation, and teamwork. Whether in the realms of hospitality, real estate, or corporate operations, my focus has always been on creating value through people-centric approaches, efficient processes, and high-performance standards. I'm thrilled to reconnect with my network, share insights, and engage in productive discussions. Let's come together to inspire, collaborate, and continue building connections that make an impact. Feel free to say hello or drop a comment—I’d love to hear from you! #HospitalityLeadership #RealEstateExpertise #CorporateOperations #CultureChampion #TeamworkExcellence

Find someone to Mentor... Recently, my friend Aidah Agwang talked about being intentional about getting a Mentor, a Coach, and a Sponsor. I asked her to consider finding someone to Mentor as well because I believe, it is so important for leaders. Here's why; 👌🏻You get to help someone navigate life and work experiences with ease. There are things I can do with a snap of my fingers, but someone out there is struggling with them- thinking the world will end if they do not get it right. As a seasoned professional, you get to say, "Here is the path; follow it or try this." My mentor, Kate Coleman, is my all-time hero. I remember when I was struggling to start my firm, and I was telling myself I needed a thousand degrees and certifications, and she looked at me and said...." you actually do not need all that. You have what it takes." Now, I get to do that for others as well. 👌🏻Challenge your thinking and your methods. Each time I mentor a new person, I am forced to rethink certain things, and in some of the mentorship meetings, I get challenged by how they think. Working with Gen Zs will keep you on your toes. My mentorship relationships with amazing rising stars like Peter Segawa and other students at Miscio are game changers. 👌🏻You keep your passion burning. For me, these sessions are my way of serving the world and helping other leaders grow and live their best lives. When I see people like Lorna Charity Ayaa, Jolene Namukoko, Msc, and the rest happy and thriving, I pat myself on the back for the small part I played in certain seasons of their lives. I appreciate leaders like Ben Owilli Oyunu, who continuously send team members my way. Oh, please join in and come or send people my way. I live for these moments.

Many of us begin our administrative journeys in entry-level roles like receptionists or front desk officers. What is truly wonderful about the administrative profession is the potential for growth at each stage. While these positions might feel basic at first, they are actually the crucial first steps toward becoming an essential part of your company’s leadership team. Starting as a receptionist can be a launching pad to roles such as administrative assistant, executive assistant, and even senior executive assistant. With skills in organization, communication, and technology, you can unlock exciting opportunities to support higher-level executives or even work closely with directors and VPs. Are you contemplating a career in administration but feeling uncertain about where to start? It’s completely normal to feel this way. The path from a front desk position to an executive boardroom may be more accessible than you think, and it can be filled with rewarding opportunities. #administrativeassistant #leadership #careerpath
