We had the pleasure of speaking to the inimitable Gordon Sanghera, co-founder and CEO of Oxford Nanopore Technologies, valued at around $6.8bn in 2021. Gordon somewhat accidentally ended up as an entrepreneur, breaking the conventional VC wisdom around 'born founders'. The technology is wild - democratising access to genomic sequencing giving us a new understanding of living organisms. Oxford Ionics founder: Focus on the risks you don't understand. 💬 Chris Ballance is the co-founder and CEO of Oxford Ionics, a startup developing a “trapped-ion” approach to quantum computer technology. In this week’s Founder in Five Q&A, Ballance discusses why founders should focus on the challenges they don’t understand as much as those that they do, motivating teams with a vision they can believe in and why an early interest in chemistry got him kicked out of school. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/er9aYFag 🔗 #quantumtechnology #startup #technology #chemistry #development #founderstories #UKtech

Synergies and investments I am involved in various areas. I do this intentionally. There are learnings and insights from other areas. A tree grows and branches out. Our care tree is ten meters from our entry door. Every day it reminds me about synergies. It is twice the height of our house. For that we should have a strong foundation. After 30 years in silicon carbide and advanced materials research, innovation, entrepreneurship, road map creation, etc, I can now apply that experience in new partnerships. This year I will apply that also as investor. In such way I can care more for the future by new technologies from advanced materials resesach and innovation.
