👋 Meet Ben Fahlgren, Senior Manager, 👥People Operations. With Zippin since the end of 2020, Ben is based out of Eugene, Oregon where he lives with his wife (a registered 🏥nurse), two daughters (aged 7 and 14), his 🐱cat Pumpkin and 🐕lab Maya. Ben’s typical ☀️day begins with ☕coffee (he can’t live without it!) and walking his daughters to 🍎school. Because his role is highly 👍collaborative, he’s often working with cross-functional 🤝teams and assisting other departments to achieve our company's 🏆goals. One recent 📝project stands out - assisting the operations team with temporarily deconstructing a Zippin-powered 🛒store in preparation for a stadium 🏗️construction project. It felt great to help the customer safely store equipment during construction, and it 👀highlighted just how adaptable our installations are to 👏customer needs. 💖Best part of the job? “I find it incredibly exciting to be in a role that exposes me to innovative and fascinating 💡technology. It's inspiring to think about how our platform, along with similar technologies, will continue to make a significant impact in the 🌐future.” 🏘️Despite working remotely, Ben values the strong sense of connection and collaboration with his 👏fellow Zippiners.👏 It’s the perfect combination to have a strong corporate culture and effective 💬communication, along with flexibility to achieve 😊work/life balance. Outside of work, Ben enjoys 🛠️DIY home projects, 🌽gardening, and outdoor activities like ⛷️skiing, ❄️snowshoeing, 🚣kayaking, and ⛰️hiking. ✨Meet Marisabel Torres✨ She is the office manager for Patch Road Maintenance. Her main responsibilities are onboarding, completing Stampli and some reports, while also assisting account managers, branch managers, and employees. This is her first job in the landscape industry, and she has been at DTE for two years Q: What is a typical day/week in the life for you? A: A typical day in my life is get to the office early, get some work done, at time of dispatch I can assist the crew members at our branch with any questions they have about Dayforce or need any safety equipment. After dispatch it is back to my office, continue my daily work and also assist our account managers and branch manager if needed. After work I enjoy spending time with my daughter. Q: How did you first get into this career and get to the position you are in currently? A: I got into this career about twenty years ago. I started with DTE after applying for the Administrative Assistant position at the Mount Dora branch, thank you to Jackie Yamrich and Andrew Davis that gave me the opportunity to be part of the DTE team, thank you to Paul Radomski who I want to say saw something or things in me that gave me the position of office manager. Q: Can you share a memorable moment or project you’ve worked on during your time here? A: A memorable moment has been when all of us women from the Mount Dora branch got together and planned out a Christmas Party for all the employees and their families, I was not able to attend but it was fun, all the interaction I had with my coworkers. Q: What advice would you give to women looking to start a career in the landscape industry? A: To go ahead an join us, I came in to DTE with minimal acknowledge of landscaping and with time I have learned and continue to learn about this industry and it has been something I enjoy, whether it’s in the office or out in the field women will enjoy it, if a men can do this us as women can do as well. Q: What are your future goals here at DTE and how do you plan to accomplish them? A: I love being an office manager but one of my goals is to become either an account manager or maybe even a branch manager 😊 accomplishing them by getting more involved, taking any kind of trainings/courses that I have to learn more so that I can become one of the best 😊

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿? My brother-in-law asked me this question over the weekend.  He was asking me about my landscaping laborer gig. My answer was: “Until I can’t.” It is the beginning of the season, and Ann’s company has several projects scheduled. She also has willing workers for the jobs, so currently, I am held in reserve until needed.  When called upon, will I be physically able to perform the required task? 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. I retired from an executive position five years ago.  Ann started her landscaping business shortly after I retired, and I became her go-to laborer. Neither of us knew how the business would go, but five years later, it is flourishing. We did not know at the start whether an old desk jockey could be part of the crew.  We knew I could manage the bookkeeping, but could I dig and haul? The answer has been that I can!  I say that proudly because many folks my age could not. Each year brings doubts about whether I will get back in shape after a winter of low activity.    The answer for 2024 remains to be answered, but I know that I will work when needed. 𝗪𝗵𝘆? The bigger and likely more relevant question is why.  I primarily like this gig because it allows me to work with my wife. But I also enjoy the work.  It keeps me in shape physically and likely extends my life. You can see the results of your labor at the end of the day—actual, tangible results. My corporate job did not produce anything tangible unless you count reports. Now, we can go back to early projects for maintenance and see how the landscapes have evolved.
