Embracing New Challenges: From 2nd Grade to 5th Grade ⬆️ Teaching is all about adaptability and passion, and I was reminded of that this year. I was hired in June for a 2nd grede position, introducing me to lower elementary for the first time since my undergraduate practicum semesters. Just a week before school started, I found out I’d be moving from teaching 2nd grade to 5th grade. It was a whirlwind of emotions—surprise, apprehension, excitement, and a bit of nervousness—but ultimately, it was a reminder of why I love this profession. 👩🏫 Switching gears so close to the start of the year was no small feat, but the opportunity to inspire a new group of students is still present. My commitment to making an impact is not limited by age or grade. I'm choosing to embrace the challenges and opportunities that come with guiding these young minds through their final year of elementary school. 🎓 Here's to a year of growth, learning, and unforgettable moments in 5th grade! Five tips from a college admissions veteran to help your 8th grade students start strong in 9th grade: 1) Starting your first six weeks of classes academically strong in 9th grade matters. 2) No formal process is in place at most high schools to switch into honors classes after 9th grade. 3) Don’t wait to join clubs and organizations that interest you. 4) Get as much practice giving presentations in front of your peers as possible. 5) Learn how to work on group projects with classmates with different backgrounds than you. You may want to hire an academic tutor to help with good study and homework habits from day number one. Keep on learning!
