In songwriting, not every narrative leads to an uplifting conclusion. Some songs, such as Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan, Stan by Eminem, Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash, and Billie Jean by Michael Jackson, illustrate paths that ultimately culminate in a worse place. These cautionary tales are not designed to empower but rather to serve as warnings about the consequences of certain choices. In these narratives, the escalation of problems is palpable, reflecting how poor decisions can lead to increasingly dire situations. As the metaphorical needle moves closer to an empty tank, it symbolizes a growing need, emphasizing the magnitude of the issues faced by the characters. While these songs may not offer a sense of empowerment, they impart critical lessons about the implications of our choices. By illustrating how a character's journey deteriorates, they remind listeners of the importance of self-awareness and the potential consequences of their actions. #MusicIndustry #Songwriting #LyricDevelopment #CautionaryTales #EmotionalStorytelling #CreativeProcess #StorytellingInMusic #MusicProduction #LessonsInLyrics

FLP BOOK OF THE DAY: Astral Weeks, Etc. by Brookes Moody On SALE: https://lnkd.in/eJ_FRjxf Astral Weeks, Etc. is a collection of intertextual #poetry centered on #music, starting with the work of singer-songwriter #Van #Morrison. With music—from Morrison, his peers, influences, and artistic descendants—as the catalyst and the frame, this collection of poetry explores female friendships, familial bonds, the #relationship that we have with art, and the relationship we have with one another and ourselves through art. Employing multiple layers of allusion and musical ekphrasis, these poems operate like music reviews while others engage in counter narratives of #classic #rock #history.

E. Satie - "Le Fils des Étoiles", Preludes I,II,III, Orchestrated by A. Leytush 3 Acts and 3 preludes to them, this is perhaps the longest Satie composition, written originally for piano. It was intended to accompany a dramatic performance, as a soundtrack or, as the author himself said, as musical wallpaper. I don't think this music was directly related to the action on stage. It consists of a series of musical blocks that move in different orders and are repeated many times. This example of exposure is akin to the principles of modern cinema, as well as painting, when different comparisons of colors and the movement of these color spots create a new mood. Another feature of this music is extremely valuable - its ability to create and immerse a mass of listeners in collective meditation and at the same time not bore them with its repetitions, but rather make them recognizable and desirable. Considering that the technical difficulties of this music are insignificant, it can be accessible to almost any large orchestra, starting from the average level of youth orchestras. Complete material for all parts of this composition, including orchestral parts, can be purchased by contacting me at: Leytush51@msn.com https://lnkd.in/eHdHNSxN

“Where consonants project logic, vowels express emotion.” Playing with your emphasis on vowel sounds is an interesting mechanism to influence how people feel as you communicate with them in speech or conversation. The mechanism also works to influence our own state - “making sounds is like a power pose…”. Try saying “weeeeeee” without having a smile on your face. In the leadership programmes I design and run, we talk about “how we show up” and that it matters to take responsibility for your energy. As a leader or facilitator, the people in the room will co-regulate with your nervous system. Meaning that if you’re fast-paced and energetic (your heart rate heightened and breath shorter), the nervous systems of the people in the room are likely to match yours. And the same matching of nervous systems will take place if you’re calm and slow-paced. Sometimes we can benefit from the faster-pace and other times we can benefit from the calm state. We often talk about breathing as the key to influencing your body state but after hearing this, it might be worth trying an Eeeeeeeee or a Yaaaaaaay to build energy or and Ahhhhhh to calm down. Perhaps behind a closed door if you want to avoid funny looks though… Thanks for the 💡 Simon Lancaster
As Taylor Swift’s new album - The Tortured Poet’s Department - is coming out later this week, today’s TeaTalk also talks about another T - T. Swift…. Oh, and Katy Perry and Adele, as well! Enjoy! Recorded earlier today at the gorgeous Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. *** NEW VIDEO *** TeaTalk - A Tea Drinker’s Guide to Rhetoric with Simon Lancaster Device of the day #12 ASSONANCE - Repeating vowels sounds… ‘Feel the need for tea?’ Assonance is great way of subtly suggesting emotions, - very helpful for copywriters, speechwriters, songwriters, poets and ANYONE ELSE who needs to create feelings. (Also, lots of advice here for anyone who gets nervous before public speaking.) Enjoy! 😊👍🫖
