On January 1, 2025, Connecticut’s minimum wage will increase from the current rate of $15.69 per hour to $16.35 per hour. The increase is required under a 2019 state law that connects the state’s minimum wage to the federal employment cost index. The minimum wage is adjusted each year based on the U.S. Department of Labor’s calculation of the employment cost index for the 12-month period ending on June 30 of the preceding year. To understand how this might affect payroll and profit projections for your business, consult with your CPA now during your end-of-year tax planning. Are you aware that California employers may need to increase the minimum wage (and exempt salaries), as early as November 6?? The Minimum wage will already increase to $16 on January 1, 2025. However, on the November 5, 2024 Ballot, California voters will be asked to vote on Proposition 32. If it passes, the minimum wage in California will IMMEDIATELY change for large employers to $17 per hour, and then to $18 per hour on January 1, 2025. (Large employers are qualified as 26 or more employees). In addition, for employers with 25 or fewer employees, instead of $16.50 on January 1, the new minimum wage would be $17 per hour, and then $18 per hour starting January 1, 2025. Is your business ready to change its payroll and exempt minimum salaries if this proposition passes? We can expect a spike in wage and hour litigation. #minimumwage #californiaminimumwage #minimumwageincrease #Proposition32 #Prop32 #california #employers #employmentlaw #voters #voteNovember5 #wageandhour #employmentlitigation https://lnkd.in/gqsp86iG
