🚨 Attention Nonprofit Leaders, Board Members, and Supporters! 🚨 Your voice is urgently needed TOMORROW MORNING at the Suffolk County Budget and Finance Meeting as Resolution 1687 takes center stage. 📅 When: Tuesday, November 19th ⏰ Time: 9:30 AM 📍 Where: Suffolk County Legislature (Agenda linked here) This is your opportunity to protect our nonprofit community and the vital services it provides. Let’s ensure our concerns are heard loud and clear. 💡 Why Your Presence Matters: 1️⃣ Despite strong opposition, no amendments have been made to Resolution 1687, even after assurances from legislators that changes were forthcoming. 2️⃣ It’s critical to demand accountability from the legislature on how they plan to manage services that nonprofits will no longer be able to provide if this harmful resolution passes. What’s at Stake? This isn’t just a local issue—it reflects a dangerous trend of government overreach that could set a precedent far beyond Suffolk County. Nonprofits play a crucial role in filling service gaps where governments fall short. Instead of hindering their work, elected officials must empower and support the sector to serve our communities effectively. Remember, a legislator is responsible for: Transparency: Communicating clearly about policies and decisions. Accountability: Owning their decisions and being answerable to the public. Advocacy: Supporting the interests of underserved groups. Accessibility: Listening to concerns and encouraging public input. Ethical Governance: Acting with integrity and prioritizing the public good. Fiscal Responsibility: Using taxpayer money wisely to benefit the community. Community Engagement: Building trust and promoting civic participation. Representation: Ensuring the needs of constituents are addressed through action. 📣 Why YOU Need to Be There: We need individuals from the nonprofit sector, boards of directors, and the community to fill the room and hold elected officials accountable. Your presence sends a powerful message: nonprofits will not stand idly by while their ability to serve is jeopardized. 👉 Let’s unite as a sector and make an undeniable impact tomorrow. 📩 For key messaging and more information, email info@nonprofitresourcehub.org. Salvatore Alaimo, friend of the Nonprofit SnapCast, is a Professor of Nonprofit Management with the School of Community Leadership and Development at Grand Valley State University. He visits with Mickey to talk about the myth that nonprofits are not allowed to lobby, and to make a case that ALL #nonprofits should absolutely be #lobbying to the limits of the law. You Can Lobby, Too. Things we discuss: * Fewer than 3% of all nonprofits engage in any lobbying. * The vast majority of E.D.s erroneously think they are not allowed to do any lobbying. * How to get nonprofits to engage. * Reasons to get into lobbying now. 📢 Important Update on the Potential Federal Funding Freeze 📢 Nonprofits across the country are facing uncertainty as federal funding remains in question. A temporary Administrative Stay has paused the freeze until Monday, February 3 at 5:00 PM, giving organizations a short window to assess their funding status and prepare contingency plans. ✅ What You Should Do Now: 🔹 If you receive federal funding (direct or pass-through), contact your grant or contract administrator for clarity. 🔹 If your funding may be affected, report it to help advocate for nonprofits. 🔹 Stay informed and follow updates from National Council of Nonprofits. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates. Hang in there, nonprofit community—we are in this together! 💙 #NonprofitFunding #FederalGrants #NonprofitSupport #StayInformed
