Ideas for finding Board members: 👉Look at past and present Board members of other local nonprofits with a similar cause. You can find them on the organization’s website or their 990s. Who do you know or do you know that could make the introduction? Make a list. Do some recon on others you don’t know. Do your paths naturally cross? Send them a friend request with a message like “I see we have a similar interest in xyz causes. I would like to connect.” People who sit on Boards of similar causes already have an affinity to the problem and experience. List those people to make contact with. 👉Find events at your local Chamber of Commerce to attend. This will help you get to know more business people. Larger companies often require their middle and upper management to sit on Boards in their community. Getting to know these companies and employees is good. Also, getting to know the right people at the Chamber of Commerce can open up doors for you. (This will also help you start to build relationships that can help you with event sponsorships later.) 👉A Potential Board Decision Package is a good document to create in order to attract new members. It will spell out your expectations and answer questions people have.

***UPDATE: Kane Jackson is back on LinkedIn! Quick work by the LI team, we can confirm their customer service has been prompt in resolving once Kane found who to talk to. A success story (if they update their process to notify people who experience the same, and give them the link/process to follow to resolve proactively instead of making the user search).*** In startups, you learn to roll with the punches. Kane Jackson's LI profile being deactivated with no communication from LinkedIn in the last day of Maslow®'s CSF raise on Birchal is surely one of those issues we'll look back on and say 'wow, crazy times!' ...but at the moment, it's a cruel blow with incredibly poor timing. On one hand, it's good to know that even the big companies like LinkedIn stuff up. Deactivating a paid subscriber with no comms and no resolution channel being presented is poor form. It's one we'll be adding to our 'not to do' list 😆 It's also reiterating a message I got via Sarah Mitchell's The Write Fit newsletter this week, which shared a post from Mark Schaefer on why using LI as a native content platform is risky. Auspicious timing? https://lnkd.in/g4aMTSyZ I have every finger and toe crossed that LI will resolve this promptly, then I'll be able to talk about how swiftly they worked to resolve this and make it a good news story instead of a cautionary tale. Here's hoping we'll be back to regular programming shortly, but in the meantime - chuck Maslow a follow please so you don't miss out on the important stuff in this last 1.5 days of the CSF raise!
I invested in Maslow because missions that matter to many matter the most - says Kane Jackson (whose LinkedIn has been deleted with no explanation). We've always known that Maslow® matters; to the people who've seen inside this industry, to the billions of people who've been harmed by it. But the people Maslow matters most to aren't on LinkedIn, a place of immense privilege, where society's most fortunate play a game of luxury; posting, commenting and equivocating on matters that most in our society don't have the good fortune to focus on because they're singularly focused on keeping their head above relentless waterline. This place, this artificial community we are a part of here, isn't real. It isn't a reflection of the problems outside it or an indication of the world beyond. But, building Maslow® for the people who need it most started here. Here is where we found our tribe of experts, leaders and change-makers who will help us take Maslow to a world that has no idea how to even start solving the complex problems that this community also created for it. Here is where we found the people who will help us change the world for those who need it. For that we owe this place everything. Tomorrow, Maslow®'s Crowd Fund will close. If you haven't already, for just $250 you can join 223 of these incredible people who, in the depth of a cost of living crisis, reached into their pockets and pulled out money to invest in a mission that is bigger than any of them or us. You couldn't find a community that is less artificial, less fake, less detached and less selfish than the one these people have created around Maslow®. What we do, how we live and what we stand for matters. If positive change matters to you, Maslow® is your tribe. We welcome you with open arms: https://lnkd.in/g56HQFHW 🍇 Kirstin Hunter Kynan Sadlo Claire K. Hey friends, Let's dive deep into the topic that's been simmering on all our minds these days: local growth strategies for contractors. You see, in the ocean of globalisation, let's not lose sight of the goldfish in our own tank - local growth potential. First off, let's debunk a common misconception - 'small scale is small growth'. Wrong! The fact is, local markets are a treasure trove of opportunities, and small scale doesn't mean small thinking. Here are a few key action points: 1. Strong Local Networking: Get out there, shake hands, pitch your services, and make connections. Gone are the days when business was just about transactions. 2. Understand and Tailor Your Services: A local market has unique demands. Put some effort to understand these demands, be flexible & tailor your services accordingly. 3. Social Media Presence: Local businesses thrive on word-of-mouth. In today’s digital landscape, that means a strong social media presence. 4. Value-Added Services & Partnerships: Think about what value you can add to your current service. Maybe it's a complementary partnership with another local supplier or offering an innovative service. 5. Proactive Community Engagement: Be more than a business, be a part of the community. Sponsor local events, get involved in charitable causes. Admit it, this makes you rethink local growth, doesn’t it? But here’s the kicker: Bringing local growth strategies to life isn’t as hard as you think, especially with a little help from a like-minded partner. That's where our team kicks in. We embody the spirit of local growth. From consulting on implementing strategies, to hands-on help navigating leadership decisions, we've got professionals who've done it before and done it well. We'll turn your 'small scale' dreams into big reality. So, let's stop thinking local as 'limited'. Instead, see it as an opportunity, bursting with potential and resonance. The heart of a successful business lies in its local fidelity, and together, we can turn this fidelity into a stepping stone for an even wider horizon of success. Remember - Think global, Act local - here's to your success in the local marketplace! Stop by with your thoughts. How has local growth worked for you? #LocalGrowth #Contractors #BusinessStrategies #Networking #CommunityEngagement #LocalBusiness #GrowthHacks
