AFRL Regional Network - Midwest’s Post

Throwing it back to a video featuring an exciting project where researchers developed a design tool to optimize layouts for stacked multistable metastructures—innovative materials that can shift between stable shapes. Why does this matter? These metastructures enable hypersonic waveriders to dynamically adjust their geometry across different Mach speeds, improving performance and adaptability in extreme conditions. The challenge was not just designing structures that morph but ensuring they do so efficiently, at scale, and without compromising strength. We are proud of Andres Arrieta, Associate Professor of Purdue University Mechanical Engineering, and his team for making strides in this area! https://lnkd.in/ep_4A-k7 #ThrowbackThursday | #TBT | #Hypersonics | #Defense | #Innovation
