From the course: Virtualization: Configuring VMs Across Platforms with VMware, Hyper-V, VirtualBox, Vagrant, and KVM

Virtualization for everyone: Introduction

- Welcome to Virtualization for Everyone. Virtualization is everywhere. You'll find it in corporate data centers to make using hardware more efficient, and you'll benefit from virtualization if you're a developer, writing software to run on a specific operating system. Also, virtualization is great for learning other operating systems. In this course, you'll learn how to get started with virtualization on your own laptop. Virtualization for Everyone provides an overview of virtualization, specifically virtualization options that you can run on your own laptop. I'll start with a lesson that provides a generic overview of virtualization solutions. And after that, I will discuss how to use the leading virtualization products to create virtual machines when using MacOS, Windows or Linux, using either VMware, VirtualBox, Hyper-V, KVM, or Proxmox. Before we get started, let me introduce myself. My name is Sander van Vugt. I'm an author and instructor, specializing in open source topics, and I've been working with Linux since the very beginning. I'm not only specialized in Linux, but also deeply involved in other key data center technologies that are based on Linux such as Kubernetes, Ansible, and OpenShift. And I'm a user of virtualization since the early 1990s. I'm also the author of over 40 Linux-related video courses, and more than 60 books, including my bestselling RHCSA Cert Guide. Apart from that, I live in the Netherlands and work with customers around the world. I also regularly speak at major open source conferences. Okay, let's get started.
