About us
Born and raised in Manhattan, the daughter of archaeologists, Ulla Johnson honed her signature style between the streets of New York and the far-flung destinations of their family travels. Her eponymous line, founded in 1999 just after her graduation from university, immediately caught the attention of the fashion press. Growing from a handful of directional boutiques and with an early endorsement from Barneys New York, Ulla Johnson’s collection has gained a dedicated following and the support of retailers across the US, Europe, Australia, and Asia. She has never wavered on her steadfast attention to the details of construction that have become her hallmark, basing each of her collections on a foundation of natural fibers, beautiful finishing, and ease of fit and form. The Ulla Johnson label has become synonymous with custom prints, intricate embroideries, and fine tailoring, all of which have earned her a loyal and global customer base. With the introduction of a shoe collection in Fall 2013, the line now encompasses a full range of product categories sourced and produced worldwide with an emphasis on artisanal and handcrafted processes. In 2017, Ulla Johnson opened her first boutique in New York City. Situated on a tree-lined block in NoHo, the boutique is a light and serene oasis. Summer 2019 saw the opening of the second New York brick and mortar store, Ulla Johnson Amagansett. Within the vibrant Amagansett Square, this newest location sits on the green at the heart of the community. 2023 saw the opening of the brands largest boutique, its flagship, in Los Angeles. Ulla lives in Brooklyn with her husband and three children.

Spring Summer 2025 launching today ~ our new runway collection is a lyrical celebration of pure color and unveils a collaboration with abstract expressionist Lee Krasner. In partnership with POLLOCK-KRASNER FOUNDATION and allowed for the very first time, three of Krasner’s works - “Portrait in Green” (1969), “Comet” (1970), and “Palingenesis” (1971)— are given new life on the body, reinterpreted across silhouettes alive with the pulsing imagery of the artist’s work. https://pkf.org/

A glimpse of what is to come ~ Pre-Fall 2025, photographed by Annemarieke van Drimmelen. A painterly wash of saturated hues evokes a newfound elegance. Richly patterned raffia and incandescent gold jacquard are molded into sculptural tailoring that whispers with soft movement. The collection speaks in intimate dialogue with the wearer, awash in a diffuse radiance as if alight from within. Prismatic dyes and delicately crocheted flowers dance around the body celebrating its contours. Linen and cotton are spliced with intricate embroideries unfurling across the silhouette as petals reaching towards the sun. The hand traces a feathery fringe adorning a waved leather bag, the scalloped edges of gilded lace and compact knits. Diaphanous chiffon floats as though suspended in mid-air, printed in dialogue with hand-loomed cotton, or etched with delicate blooms. Introducing Resort 2025 collection. Captured by Julia Noni against the skate parks and rocky outcroppings of Montauk, a collection as richly varied as the seasons it touches. The body is elongated, celebrated. Floating chiffon and floral crepe caught adrift in the saline breeze, the sun filtered through Chantilly lace and reflecting off of sculpted leather, dense sequins, foiled knits. The woman emerges—confident and complicated, as myriad as the landscape that holds her. Celebrating our partnership and the new season, two custom built shoppable installations have been unveiled at Neiman Marcus NorthPark in Dallas and will be celebrated this evening at the Nasher Sculpture Garden. The installation features a swirling monolith backdrop custom-built for the company's fall 2024 runway show by artist Abby Cheney that took place at Powerhouse Arts in Brooklyn, and repurposed for retail. Ready-to-wear and accessories are displayed on handmade Douglas fir totems and plinths, and a bespoke rug, handmade in Morroco and in a custom Ulla Johnson print.
