📢 New York’s #cannabis entrepreneurs are facing a frustrating reality: The very rules designed to support small business owners are creating massive financial hurdles. Mona Zhang latest piece in POLITICO spotlights how New York’s proximity protection regulations—meant to prevent over-concentration of dispensaries—are instead forcing licensees into legal battles, financial losses, and bureaucratic limbo. Some operators have spent six figures just to hold on to locations they might never get approved. Marino. client Kate Hruby, MPA from KJH Strategy, a key voice in this debate, put it best: Regulators are under pressure to strike the right balance, but licensees need clarity and fairness—before more businesses go under. With lawsuits mounting and public comment heating up, it’s time for real solutions. How do we fix this broken process? #CannabisIndustry #NYCannabis #CannabisPR https://lnkd.in/erhSgxXH

🔥 Strategic communications in the #cannabisindustry keep evolving, and so do we. 🔥 Over the past year, Marino. has expanded our #cannabisPR playbook to include #influencermarketing—helping brands connect with audiences in an authentic and impactful way. My colleague David Kushner has been at the forefront of this shift, leading our efforts to integrate social media and influencer partnerships into client strategies. From dispensary openings to product launches, we’re leveraging the voices that drive engagement and shape the industry. Check out this recent article where he gets into the weeds about #influencer #marketing. Here's an excerpt: "When I began at #Marino about three years ago, I saw the potential for how our #digital team could help our cannabis clients, but at that time the landscape on social media was so volatile that companies were hesitant to invest in it. In early 2024 that started to change as we demonstrated the value of social media content creators/influencers to our clients, specifically for dispensary clients that were opening throughout New York . For these dispensaries looking to reach new audiences but without being able to utilize the usual benefits of digital marketing and ad targeting, influencer engagements became the most effective avenue to market on." The cannabis space moves fast—so should your marketing. Let’s talk. #CannabisMarketing #InfluencerPR #MarinoPR

Boston in under 24 hours? Challenge accepted. After arriving from a smooth drive from NYC, I started my journey at Rooted In, Newbury Street, then walked to #NewDia across from #Fenway, then walked back downtown and took in the city from #TheView at the Top of the Prudential Center, squeezed in a late night snooze, and then jumped into hosting our first-ever #JewsInWeed Boston Bagel Bash before wrapping up walking the floor at NECANN. The Bagel Bash energy was next level—the excitement was real, and it was amazing to see the Jews in Weed network continue to grow and evolve. Every event brings new connections, meaningful conversations, and a stronger community. Huge thanks to our sponsors for making it all possible and to everyone who showed up. The momentum keeps building—can’t wait for the next one! Special thanks to our event planning partners and presenting sponsor from Canna MGT! UCS Feel Good Friday! Tony Gallo is an absolute OG in the cannabis security space and someone we’ve had the pleasure of attending 40+ conferences with over the years. Beyond being a leader in the industry, he’s become a great friend (and apparently, a part-time wardrobe supplier—thanks to the Sapphire Risk Advisory Group golf shirt!). Today’s event is another great reminder that relationships are what drive this industry forward. Huge thanks to Jordan Isenstadt of Marino. for hosting and always bringing the right people together. Not to mention, Jordan consistently manages to light up every photo with his perfect smile and create genuine connections in every room. Here’s to strong friendships, plenty of laughs, and a few collected shirts along the way. #FeelGoodFriday #Networking #CannabisIndustry #RelationshipsMatter
