The Job Market is Looking Brighter in 2025! According to a recent article from The Wall Street Journal, job seekers are in for a less challenging ride in 2025 as the hiring landscape continues to improve. Business leaders anticipate hiring more after last year’s uncertainties around politics, AI and the economy. And with many industries ramping up recruitment efforts, there’s a growing demand for skilled workers, especially in fields like IT and HR. Key Takeaways from the Article: -Job Market Recovery: The U.S. job market is projected to see an increase in job openings, especially as companies focus on expanding talent pools. Despite increasing return-to-office (RTO) mandates, many organizations are still embracing hybrid and remote arrangements. Recent articles by ColoradoBiz and Inc. Magazine highlight how companies and employees are adapting to these shifting workplace expectations. In Colorado, remote and hybrid work remain in high demand and this trend has led to a decline in strict in-office policies, with the percentage of employers mandating full-time office attendance dropping from 49% in early 2023 to 32% by the end of 2024. Even with increased RTO policies, office attendance hasn’t rebounded as expected. A study by a University of Pittsburgh research team that analyzed every company on the S&P 500 found that just 10 companies implemented full RTO mandates in the past year, reinforcing that even the largest organizations are leaning toward hybrid models rather than requiring employees to return full-time. For employers, this presents a critical decision. Companies that continue offering flexible work options will have a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining talent. The data shows that workers are clear about their preferences, and organizations that fail to adapt may struggle with engagement and retention. A recent survey showed that only 25% of professionals prefer full-time office work, while 35% favor remote roles and 40% opt for hybrid models. Around the world, companies are increasingly turning to project-based work to meet the demands of their markets. This emerging trend looks like it will continue to rise for 2025, and many years thereafter. How can you leverage project-based IT work to your advantage? The key is to successfully hire and manage a workforce that will deliver high-quality outcomes. Here are a few steps you can take to ensure this happens: -Define project requirements clearly. Not only will this help you identify the right talent, but it will also attract the right candidates to your job postings. -Choose the right talent model. Depending on the needs of your project, there are several models from which to choose: contract, contract-to-hire, nearshore, offshore, etc. Carefully select the one that makes the most sense for your situation. -Establish clear communication channels. Once you've hired your project-based team, make sure they have clear communication guidelines to follow: preferred communication platforms, direct reports and points of contact, and so forth. -Set milestones for success. Define your project milestones, as well as any key deadlines that must be met. This will keep your team productive and aligned with project goals. We learned key takeaways from CTA's 2024 Tech Industry Report, connected with new and familiar faces in the Colorado tech community, and celebrated the recognition of this year's awards nominees. Other key takeaways include: -The tech industry directly accounts for 10 percent of Colorado’s employment and 20 percent of the state’s gross domestic product (GDP)! -One job created in the tech industry supports another 2.67 jobs in the state economy. -Over the last five years, the tech industry added 47,440 net new jobs, the most jobs added by any major industry in the state. -The total tech industry is predicted to grow at a rate of 11.5 percent in the next five years. This is the 5th highest projected rate in the nation. -Colorado ranked 5th in the US in venture capital funding rates from 2018 to 2023. -Colorado's tech industry contributes over $106 billion in gross state product (GSP), which is 20% of the state's total economic output. -The average earnings per worker in Colorado's tech industry is $165,500 (#6 highest wage across the country!)
