After a lot of soul searching, I have decided to step down from my role as the CEO of Team Rubicon. Over 9 years ago, I stepped aboard this rocket ship of growth and impact and put on a new uniform of sorts, a #Greyshirt, with a mission to help communities around the world impacted by disasters and crises. It has been an incredible journey filled with moments of impact, countless friendships, and invaluable learnings. The memories I carry with me are etched in gratitude and pride. As the CEO, I’ve loved our pursuit of being the best damn disaster organization in the world. From every mission to every disaster, to every decision and pivot, the resilience and dedication of our Greyshirts and donors have left an indelible mark on me. I am profoundly thankful for the opportunity to have led such an inspiring organization and to have worked alongside so many remarkable individuals. As I contemplate the future, I am enthusiastic about discovering my next passion, something akin to Team Rubicon, which I find so fulfilling that it scarcely feels like work. During my 22 years in the Navy, one of the adventures my family and I embraced was the anticipation of our next assignment – receiving new Navy orders. At the conclusion of each three-year period with various squadrons, I had the honor of bidding farewell to some of the most remarkable teammates—the Ghostriders, the Pukin’ Dogs, Topgun, Tophatters, Flying Eagles, Diamondbacks, and notably, the Redcocks as the Commanding Officer. Each tour surpassed the previous one in terms of experience. There was always a sense of excitement about what lay ahead and the satisfaction in the rearview mirror of knowing the team I was leaving had committed fully to excellence. This same sentiment is present for me at Team Rubicon; it represents my Topgun of Disaster Response. To my Team Rubicon family, thank you for your unwavering support and for being part of this extraordinary chapter in my life. I am so confident in the future – leadership, volunteers, staff, finances, mission, and culture – all are passing muster with flying colors. I'll keep savoring the joy of steering this ship and will be aboard to salute the next CEO aboard, then I’ll turn to my family’s future. Here’s to new adventures and continuing to make a difference, wherever the path may lead. There’s a unique joy in finding the next calling that fuels you, and I am eager to find and embrace that once again.
