About us
Today's successful financial advisory firms have a big challenge: serving their clients well while keeping up-to-date with the newest and best technology and practice management tools. The financial services firms that support the financial advisors have similar challenges in that advisors are sometimes relying on the larger firm to provide the insights, support and solutions they need -- especially when it comes to technology and delivering high-quality services in a digital world. Freelance magazine writer, book author, virtual office consultant and fee-only financial advisor Joel P. Bruckenstein, CFP®, is proud to provide a newsletter (now renamed the T3 Tech Hub and reincarnated in digital form as an online destination for information, insights and news about technology in the financial services industry) as well as annual conferences and other special by-invitation-only events to help the professionals who serve investors and the general public meet the new challenges and benefit from an array of opportunities. Bruckenstein also provides technology and practice management consulting for financial service firms. He is a sought after conference speaker, writer and industry thought leader. His topic is always technology and practice management. Follow this page for news and announcements. Visit http://www.technologytoolsfortoday.com to learn more.

Market penetration for #CRM programs has fallen more than 10 percentage points in the past two years, with roughly 86% of #financialadvisors now using them, according to the latest Advisor Software Survey from T3 Technology Tools for Today and Inside Information. Some feel the platforms are simply stagnating in terms of new features, Oasis Group founder John O'Connell, MBA told The Daily Upside: “Note-takers were all the rage in 2024, so why aren’t CRM vendors just building those AI capabilities into their software?” Read more: https://lnkd.in/g3WMfZpG #AI #wealthtech #fintech

Interesting perspective from our friend Joshua Brown. What do you think? Chime in here.
Advisors: Using this quiet moment between T3 Technology Tools for Today and Future Proof Citywide to let you in on a little secret with massive implications for your business. No one else will ever tell you this stuff, but I got you - There are only two questions you need to ask before implementing a startup's software in your practice: 1. Is the company well-capitalized and financially able to execute its roadmap? 2. Do the custodians have anything to lose by ripping out the cord that connects its API? If the answer to either of these questions is "No" then that's that. Nothing else matters. Don't worry about demos, don't worry about slides. Everybody's got a dope demo. All the slides are pretty. Question 1: Ask the founder how much they've raised and from whom. The average fintech software engineer in Manhattan makes $162,000, according to ZipRecruiter. So figure the national average outside of NYC, SF and LA is more like $115,000 (AVERAGE, RELAX!). Is the dollar amount the founder tells you they've raised sufficient to maintain four or five of those salaries plus pay themselves for the next 12 months? If not, are they raising right now? Remember, they're going to have to add some salary + bonus salespeople too. No funding, no onboarding, that's my rule. They've got money? Good. First hurdle cleared. Then I want you to call the highest ranking person at Fidelity and Schwab you have access to and repeat after me: "How many firms on your platform are using ____ and would they be upset if you cut the API?" Do this on Zoom, not over the phone, so you can look the person in the eye. They will deflect and say "There's ABSOLUTELY no plans to sever that connection at the moment, don't be silly" because that's their job (or maybe they don't know), so I want you pay attention not just to the words but to the facial expression and the degree of incredulity at the question. If they're thinking "NO WAY WOULD WE EVER CUT OUT ADDEPAR! OH MY GOD CAN YOU IMAGINE THE UPROAR!" it will show up in the way they respond. Watch whether or not their eyes look up and to the right - this is what it looks like when someone is subconsciously attempting to access the creative side of the brain aka the Lie Factory. You can have the best wealthtech software product ever devised in the history of the RIA industry. You win all the awards, speak on all the stages, make all the lists. But if the custodians don't want to maintain the API or, worse, see you as competition for some shit they're trying to build in-house - you're dead. Especially if there's no revenue attached to it. No revenue means no rabbi inside the building sticking up for you. Your job as a prospective purchaser of this software is to make sure your most important provider - the brokerage custodian - has something to lose by kicking it out. Once satisfied on the answers to these two questions, you have my permission to proceed with the experiment. Hope this helps.

Each year, Ian McKenna brings a certain international flare to the #T3Conference and #T32025 is no different. He stopped by the #T3SocialCam to chat about why he travels thousands of miles to see who Joel Bruckenstein's brought together... plus the new AI-for-advisors map he's created at AdviserSoftware.com to help folks figure out what technology exists, what it does, and who it's for.

Does this sound familiar? 🤔 You love your tech stack, but it doesn't have that *one* feature you really want. What do you do? ➡️ You might be able to switch providers... but there are few things that are more disruptive than overhauling a #TechStack. ➡️ You could buy additional tech just to get that feature... but now you're ending up with duplicate functionality, and learning a new system. ⭐ What you may not know is there's a third option. ⭐ Softlab360 - Engineering Ideas Since 2000's CEO Henry Zelikovsky stopped by the #T3SocialCam at #T32025 to talk about how bespoke solutions—like bringing in a firm to add a single new feature to your current lineup—can be the best option for your team, your clients... and your sanity.
