After a great week in Dallas attending FRI (Families R Important) and a challenging week at work, I finally managed to carve out some time for a morning walk with my grandson, Hudson. Of course, where else would we go - the local firehouse, Company 1 in Spotsylvania County. We sat and watched these fine men and women hone their craft on a beautiful summer morning. This was an opportunity to rejuvenate, recharge, and reinforce the value of work-life management. Observing these crews fosters a meaningful connection and demonstrates the value of real-world experience and learning for my grandson. By sharing these moments, I begin to model the importance of commitment, continuous learning, and the importance of mentoring the next generation.
For the engine company (Brian & Oliver) being observed by this young and impressionable young boy, this experience serves as a reminder of their role as role models and their impact on the community's future generations. It underscores the importance of professionalism, dedication, and teamwork, knowing that their actions may inspire a young mind to follow in their footsteps. This connection between generations fosters a sense of pride and responsibility, reminding the crews that their work extends beyond the immediate task—it also shapes the aspirations and values of those who look up to them - me and my grandson.
To this day, I am in awe of the great work that our firefighters do daily. By the way, notice he is pointing to the Engine Company because he knows that "water" makes everything better, and yes, those are animal "jammies." Thank you, Brian & Oliver, for representing the Bravest from Spotsylvania County. Spotsylvania County Jay Cullinan #mentorship #leadership #Nextgeneration #worklifemanagement
