February is #RecreationalTherapyMonth! Our rec therapists develop, coordinate, and direct recreational-based programs to help patients with injuries, illnesses, or disabilities. They mix up the treatment according to their patient’s needs, using things like dance, music, arts and crafts, community reintegration out-trips, sports, or games. Darlene, our Recreational Therapy/Child Life director, has worked at Shriners for 35 years. Amanda has been working at Shriners for 15 years. Susan has been with the team for 3! This team kicked off the month-long celebration with a pizza party that included information on how this department helps our patients in various ways. Comment below to wish our team a Happy Rec Therapy Month!

Lura, 4, is all smiles after receiving a replacement for her beloved stuffed animal, which she accidentally left in the lobby. Despite a thorough search, it couldn’t be found. Aliza, who works in patient access, learned of Lura’s distress and saw a chance to help. After winning an Amazon gift card during the employee holiday lunch, Aliza used it to order a new stuffed animal and shipped it with a note: “Sent with love from Patient Access.” The thoughtful gesture brought comfort to Lura and her family, serving as a reminder that Amazing Care includes the little things that make a big difference in a patient’s life. #PatientAccess #ShrinersChicago #MostAmazingCareAnywhere
