Did you know that nearly 50% of the U.S. relies on groundwater, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)? While PCWA customers receive almost all their water from surface water (rain and snowmelt captured in our reservoirs), groundwater is a vital resource for many communities, supporting drinking water supplies, agriculture, and ecosystems. Groundwater also serves as a critical backup during dry months when surface water levels are low. However, it faces threats from overuse, pollution, and climate change. Through groundwater recharge, and conjunctive use, water agencies can balance supplies by relying on surface water during wet months and allowing groundwater to recover, then using groundwater during dry periods to supplement overall water availability. This approach helps ensure long-term water reliability in our region. This National Groundwater Awareness Week, let’s recognize the value of this resource and commit to sustainable water practices. This spring, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will begin the second phase of repairs on Lake Spaulding Powerhouse 1. Last year’s work on another unit in the powerhouse involved first-time repairs on aging equipment, leading to unexpected challenges and unforeseen delays. But with that experience behind us, we have a better sense of what to expect this time around. Lake Spaulding is a key part of PG&E’s system, supplying water to Rollins Reservoir—the starting point for many of PCWA’s canals. As PG&E works to restore its infrastructure, water deliveries to PCWA will once again be reduced. Here’s what you need to know...

This week, we recognize U.S. Forest Service Chief Randy Moore and his incredible 45-year career dedicated to serving the American people. His leadership in forest and watershed protection has left a lasting impact, and he was a driving force in making the French Meadows Forest Restoration Project a reality. It was an honor to be there for his last day—witnessing the end of an era and the beginning of a well-earned retirement. Thank you, Chief Moore, for your leadership and commitment to our natural resources. #USFS #PCWA
