About us

PIVOTAL, formerly called Silicon Valley Children's Fund and TeenForce is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to improving educational and life outcomes for foster youth. PIVOTAL has provided over $3M in scholarship dollars to foster youth in Silicon Valley. Our persistent coaching model provides high school and college foster youth continuous mentor support, education planning, tutoring, career exploration and an unconditional commitment to help them define and achieve their life dreams! PIVOTAL scholars are 10x more likely to graduate from college, compared to only 3% of foster youth nationally. PIVOTAL helps foster youth acquire the skills, habits and work experience to fulfill their potential. Our staffing agency model makes it convenient and cost-effective for employers to hire teens and generates revenue to support our activities. • Less than 5% of former foster youth earn a bachelor’s degree, compared to more than 30% of their non foster youth peers. For many young people who have experienced foster care, higher education can feel out of reach—but it doesn’t have to be. With the right support systems, resources, and community, foster youth can achieve their academic dreams and unlock opportunities they never thought possible. A new article from EdSource highlights how programs across California are stepping up to ensure foster youth don’t just enroll in college, but persist and graduate. From financial aid guidance to dedicated campus support, these services are making a difference. We see firsthand how coaching, scholarships, and career support can change the trajectory of a foster youth’s future. When young people know they have a team behind them, anything is possible!
