This week, we had the incredible opportunity to connect with hundreds of Oklahomans at Senior Day at the Capitol! Our Aging Services Manager, Alisa West Cahill, shared vital information about mental health resources for older adults and raised awareness about 988 as a lifeline for support. We were especially inspired by Linda Traw, Ms. Senior Oklahoma, who shared her powerful story about seeking mental health support for the first time in her 40s. Her message? It's never too late to get support and live a thriving life. No matter your age, your mental health matters. If you or someone you know needs someone to talk to, call or text 988—support is always within reach.

It’s an excellent time here in Miami, FL at the SAMHSA/Vibrant/988 regional convening. Our Oklahoma peeps showed up big and we’re having a blast learning, connecting, and getting to share with others. We have representatives from Solari, Inc. , Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Heartline, and tribal 988. I appreciate our community partners so much and am so proud of the work we are doing together for our communities in the Great State of Oklahoma!

Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services reposted this
One year ago today I took a leap of faith after hearing God call me loud and clear to serve vulnerable Oklahomans on a larger scale. The most difficult part of taking this role was not being able to see what was on the other side…outside of my comfort zone and certainly outside of the plan that I had in mind for myself. The last year I have been both challenged and inspired like never before and have had a chance to meet and work with the most passionate professionals. Thank you Kevin Stitt for trusting me to take on the complexity that is the behavioral health system across Oklahoma, and thank you to the Oklahoma legislature for your continued support of our department and trusting our leadership team to transform mental health in Oklahoma. Anyone confronted with a similar situation, in your personal or professional life, take the leap of faith and get out of your comfort zone. It is not our story to write after all. We are simply supporting characters in a story larger than any of us can grasp. Let’s continue the transformation. Our most vulnerable Oklahomans are counting us.
