If you're going to AFCEA WEST 2025, you'll have the opportunity to network with industry leaders, government acquisition officers, and program managers to explore solutions for maritime operations. And there will be plenty of that. Even better? Seeing real-life examples of those solutions. Make sure to visit Navy SBIR/STTR Transition Program (Navy STP)'s booth at WEST (#1725) to engage with participating small businesses and explore how their innovations align with critical Navy needs. Fantastic discussion topics this week at Surface Navy Association National Symposium. Lots of efforts to increase innovation – what's the most interesting potential development for 2025? #usnavy #marinecorps #defenseinnovation
⚓️Excited to speak at the Surface Navy Association’s National Symposium this week! ⚓️ Key things to look out for in the exciting world of #surfacewarfare as we enter 2025: 🤖 Big focus on unmanned systems. TheFY2025 budget request includes $101.8 million in research and development (R&D) funding for the MUSV program. Meanwhile, the Small Unamanned Surface Vessel (sUSV) program, and #replicator is underway - in August 2024, the Navy partnered with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) to prototype sUSVs. Contracts were awarded to a mix of mid-size, non-traditional, and venture-backed companies to expedite the development and deployment of these vessels. 💰Speaking of #venturecapital, expect more non-traditional defense players at SNA this year, and by extension entering the navy market. A 2024 report highlighted that the federal government had spent $22 billion on technology from the top 100 national-security startups, significantly less than the $53 billion invested by venture capitalists in these companies. This disparity suggests that bridging the #valleyofdeath from prototype to production contracts remains a challenge. I’m eager to talk to industry and venture players at SNA this year to hear how we can help. 🚢 Shipbuilding, shipbuilding, and more #shipbuilding. In 2024, the U.S. shipbuilding industry experienced moderate growth - the industry’s revenue reached approximately $35.3 billion, marking a 3.4% increase from the previous year. This growth was primarily driven by increased defense spending. The Navy’s 2025 shipbuilding plan aims to expand the fleet with 290 to 340 new ships by 2053, which will necessitate an average annual expenditure of $40.1 billion (in 2024 dollars) over the next three decades. Find out what the Surface Navy intends to buy! 💻 Digital tech!! This will be a big focus of the conference - both from industry partners’ booths, and government speakers (myself included)! The U.S. Navy’s proposed budget for FY 2025 is approximately $257 billion, reflecting a 6% increase from the previous fiscal year. Within this budget, the Navy has earmarked $11 billion for managing IT capabilities. Around $2 billion is projected to be allocated toward cyberspace initiatives, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and AI-related projects. We’re putting our money where our LinkedIn posts have been! I hope to see you on the show floor this week!
